I am having surgery in Mexico

Recommended Posts

Hi fellow sleevers

I am a a 55 year old female who has struggled with weight and yo-yo diets for years now. I have just committed to having surgery through Medical Tourism in Tiajuana as my insurance has such strict requirements I can not meet them at this time. I hope to lose about 70 pounds altogether. Its scheduled for March 7, 2015. I am going alone and its now hitting me that I have really started this process for the gastric sleeve surgery and I am excited but really scared about it. I don't have any support from friends or family as they can't imaging doing something drastic like being cut on for weight loss...any support is appreciated. If anyone is having surgery around the same time in Tiajuana, feel free to contact me as I am looking for a surgery buddy. I guess I should look at the benefits of it all and not be nervous. What kind of things should I be aware of after surgery and being in Mexico?

I am scheduled for March 2 with Dr. Ortiz through A Lighter Me. This will sort of double as a honeymoon for my fiancé and I as we are planning on eloping the weekend before the procedure. I'm 27yo and am so very ready for this change in my life. I am also filled with excitement and anxiety as the date gets closer. I just want to love myself as much as I love the rest of my life. I want to start my marriage off a newer healthier me.

Good luck to you! I would love to have fellow WLS people I can relate to pre and post op for support! :)

Hello!

I went tru Medical Tourism to Mexico on January 15th, 2015 and had my gastric sleeve done and it was the best thing ever!

Here are some things you need to know. First of all the hardest part is remembering that you decided to do a great thing for yourself, and so the support that is lacking now by friends and family will be there later when they see you thriving in your new life style.

Second, you will not be alone, because the moment they pick you up at San Diego airport., you will gain new friends. Others that are there, some with family and friends, others alone. You will naturally start talking because you are all there for the same reason and nervous. Nothing to be nervous though, as you are wisked to the hospital to begin blood work, EKG, pre op, etc. You will be with the same people and others that came the day before or the day after, that when you leave you will have life long friends, sharing the same journey.

Remember to bring some cash, you will get an opportunity to go shopping in a safe place called Revolution Street. It's gorgeous and you will want to be up moving and walking. The weather was great, the hotel beautiful, and the round the clock staff, amazing!

Any questions you have don't be afraid to ask. You got this!

Thank you for replying with a step by step accounting of how your surgery went through Medical Tourism. I feel very reassured with all the information.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
