Airport Security

Recommended Posts

This is probably a silly question, but I was wondering if anyone has ever had a problem with their port setting off the alarm thingie while going through security at the airport?

My port never sounded any alarm, but my old underwires did! Im so glad I dont need them anymore. Dont forget that all your liquids, jells, toothpaste, shampoos etc cant be more that 3oz each and they all must fit into a quart sized zippy bag. Its ok to check on bags that have more liquids and jells though. I found out that I can keep my medicines separate, like my rx toothpast. Happy flying!

No but telling the ticket person "Blessings of Allah upon you" is a bad, bad idea.

Hahahaha So is trying to light your shoes!

But seriously, I flew to Mexico and back and my band didn't set off any alarms. Enjoy your trip.

I just got back from Colorado and nothing set off the security people except my nebulizer. They always have to check it for gunpowder. Actually it's sort of cool. They sort of swab it down and run the swab through a machine. You just have to carry 3 oz. of stuff in your carry-on baggage. I carried 3.5 ounces of hand lotion and had no problem. You can pack anything in your bag if you check it. I always check my gigantic suitcase. I have to plan for all emergencies so I take just about everything I own. When I got to Colorado, I found some little peppermints in my bag, courtesy of the Tulsa security people. That was a lot better than my previous trips when everything in my suitcase was destroyed. But this time I put everything in zip lock bags and they seemed to like that. I went all the way to England and never had a problem with my baggage. When I went to Mexico for the band, my bag, which had my nebulizer in it, took an extra day to get home. So now I carry my nebulizer on the plane and let them play with it. They seem to like that and I don't have any problems.

I've flown numerous times since being banded and the titanium in my port has never been detected during security screening.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
