Got banded in Springfield MO??

Recommended Posts

Hollygurl - sounds like you're getting closer to getting everything done. Don't sweat the psych evaluation - it's really not a big deal. Are you seeing Katie? Seems like everyone I come in contact w/has seen her but they made my appointment w/Dr. Greenhall. I had to go see him for 3 different visits and I think the one w/Katie is just like one long one. Anyway, really it's nothing to worry about.

As far as rice - I've been banded almost a year and I cannot eat rice. I tried it one time and it hurt so bad that I haven't tried it since. I'm not a big rice eater so I don't really miss it. I can't eat bread either. Maybe if it's toasted but for the most part it's a big no-no for me. Again, it's worth it. Like princess21 said - everyone is different. I know some who can eat bread.

Great to  see you here, altho I don't get in here very often at all.

See how different bandsters can be? I can eat rice just fine. bread is not good, however. Can't do Cereal well & have to be extremely careful with meat.

Tooth update... booohooohooo... ABSESSED... needs root canal and crown $1,900.00, starting 2-12-08. I am still in so much pain I could cry-again. Can't take Rx pain meds, with the kids today... I'll suffer until this evening. Antibiotics should start to help real soon.

Can't lose weight when all I want is starbucks-- cream and sugar with a dash of iced coffee! lol

Hi

I have the seminar scheduled for the 18th of February. Insurance issues I am sure but it sounds like Mary with Dr. Edwards is the lady to get it done. I need to have this done to get my quality of life back and I am working on my man to get him to do this as well. Anyways have enjoyed the posts on here is helping to know this is the right decision for me.

:)

When I had a root canal with a lot of pain the antibiotics really helped make the pain go away. I almost thought I did not need to have anything done until I found out that the pain would come back. I hope the antibiotics help you.

Hi Everyone! It is great to see such activity on here. It's been a while since I've been on so I had a lot of catching up to do!

Mazie - how's mom? I hope things are better for her. How about you? How are you doing?

I'm a little frustrated with the weight loss. I had lost 37 pounds and then gained 5 back. I'm slowly starting to lose that. I feel like I have restriction (especially in the mornings) so I don't think I need another fill...not really sure what's going on. I was really hoping to be further along by now. I did finally join St. John's fitness center and have been going at least a couple of times a week and I'm going to start dancing again (been out of that for a month) so I'm hoping this will help jumpstart the loss.

Good too see everyone and new people.

Hi all! Here is the latest update on my saga...lol...

Mom came home from the hospital tonight (triple bypass, open heart surgery DEC. 13th.. followed by MUCH complications).

I had an Emergency partial root canal-pulp removal today... that gets finished up Tuesday! Crown 2 weeks later?

Still separated from Hubby... not sure how/if that will work out.

Gained about 3 pounds in a week with tooth issues... and ZERO exercise!

How is everyone else doing with weight loss and life?

Princess- all liquids start today? Keep us posted!

Debbie- Good luck w/out sugar.

Tabitha- Great to hear from you!

Lemonlime- welcome and congratulations on getting started!

Springfield- hope the band and weight loss helps with all your co-morbidities.

bad sheepy- I would love to hear more from you.

kjl- good luck with the bridge work ... keep us posted more often?

You are all in my thoughts and prayers regularly! I can't wait for Spring/summer! I need to exercise MORE! And Mazie needs to run, outside, for a change.lol Later, Kimberly:)

Hi everyone, been awhile since I've been on here - sounds like everyone is doing pretty good. I was banded on 12/17/07 - supposed to get my first fill tomorrow. I was supposed to get it on 1/24 but they messed up on the date for the nutrition class so wouldn't let me have it till I went to that. Getting pretty discouraged. I had lost 15 pounds but have gained 4 back. :) Have absolutely no restriction yet, feel like I'm on a very strict diet and obviously I've never had any luck with that!! Hopefully once I get a fill I will start doing better! Good luck to all

So far so good! Today I actually felt that I had a lot more energy. I just can not believe that my surgery date is less than a week. I hope everyone is doing good.:tt1:

Princess- you can do it... almost there.

grannyk... 1st fill may help you out some... I hate to feel like I'm on a DIET! I will fail that way for sure!

Tabitha.. why the change from Paisley? Just curious? I've seen several people change recently.

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Seems it would be more compassionate not to perform a WLS on someone until they are mentally ready for it. Unless of course they are on death's door...

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
