10 weeks out diet?

Recommended Posts

By 10 weeks I was cleared to eat all foods except crunchy things. I had switched to Protein Bars instead of Protein Shakes (was SOOOOO over shakes by then between pre and post-op diets!). I basically ate the same way I eat now. cheese sticks and/or greek yogurt for Snacks. A few ounces of meat for lunch and dinner.< /p>

I am 12 weeks out and have been cleared for a general diet since 7 weeks post op. The only restrictions are fibrous vegetables must be cooked and refined carbs are a no no. They recommend 1 cup of food total per meal 3 times a day and 3 Snacks a day. I can not even come close to eating a whole cup of food in one sitting. 1/4 to 1/2 cup max per sitting is about it depending on what I am eating. I still can't eat 1 whole egg at a sitting no matter how hard I try. It is a challenge every day to meet my Protein goals because of my limited capacity. I am interested in seeing what others are eating and quantities!

I am on a general diet and typically get about 1/2 cup down at each meal. I try and stick with Proteins like chicken, Shrimp, salami, cashews etc for the primary portion of my meal and will add a fork full of vegetables. I snack only sometimes and when I do it's a Protein Bar or veggie straws.

I was sleeved on 11/19 and have lost 62 pounds total - 50 since surgery.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
