Another protein shake question

Recommended Posts

Had my last class today, and the more I think about it, the more confused I get lol. I have read many delicious recipes for Protein Shakes, but many include Peanut Butter or bananas or sf pudding mix, etc.. My program says I need to have Protein shakes for 3 weeks after surgery....is it ok to include the extras during this 3 weeks or do I simply have to gave Protein Shake mixed with milk/ Water?

@@Wannabeskinnie I, too, was very confused about this -- I'm one week today post-op from a bypass. I really had no idea about Protein shakes -- what I've figured out that works for me (at a very early stage anyway) is this:

Almond milk (I'm vegetarian; unsweetened Almond Milk has no sugars)

Vega One Protein powder, chocolate

PB powder (I'd never heard of it, but it's powdered peanut butter; avail at a store like Sprout's, Whole Foods, and I even saw it at costco yesterday)

Chia seeds for Fiber

Use the right amounts for whatever your NUT says you need in terms of Protein, cards, etc.

I blend that stuff, then add about 8 oz of finely crushed ice that I get from my local Sonic drive-in. Blend again, pour the right amount (I've been making enough for two at a time, since I'm on soft foods plus two protein shakes/day right now...)

It is DELISH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You can add the flavorings and extras. I mix my Protein shakes with SILK unsweetened soymilk, then add Sweet N' Low to sweeten it up a bit. Making the shake with this or skim milk gives you an extra 7 grams of Protein.

It depends on what your surgical practice allows. You should probably check with them. I was allowed FF and SF puddings, and Peanut Butter, as long as I stayed within my daily calorie and carb limits. I was not allowed bananas or any other fruit as they are too high carb for my surgeon's program.
