Water? Is it hard to get it down?

Recommended Posts

HI... I am pre surgery and LOVE LOVE LOVE Water. Is it hard to get it down? I mean, I carry a huge container in my car and drink all day. I might really have a hard time if it is hard to drink Water.< /p>

Thanks!

I am three weeks post op today. I really haven't been keeping track of my Water. Yesterday was a really bad day. So, I decided I needed to really keep track of what I am doing. Needless to say, I am not getting enough water. Its almost 2:00 here and I have only had 15 oz. I don't know how I am going to get to 64 oz. without making myself sick. I should have been paying better attention.

I was this way pre-surgery too, after surgery it was difficult to get in the amount that I wanted to, I am 9 months out now and don't have the same issues but the desire to drink as much as I did isn't there as it was before either so it's not as hard of an adjustment as I would of thought it was going to be. Good luck!!

I am around the 4 month post op time frame. Water is a chore to get in. I do think I am not drinking the proper amounts...But I am trying. I have really no food limits, I am one of those people that can eat anything at all, but just smaller amounts. So Water seems like a waste of space to me sometimes. If I drink a bunch no food can go in...and given the choice of chewing or drinking something. Chewing wins hands down!

At first drinking is difficult, especially plain Water. Plain water literally would not go down my throat and I would spit it back out. I had to put flavoring in it or drink Dasani water because it has minerals. My Dr. said they do not understand it but most people have a lot of trouble with plain water for about the first year. Since the first year, I can drink plain water all the time and it does great. The key is finding out what works for you to be sure you get the Fluid in. It is a dangerous situation if you let yourself get dehydrated. Your tastes and cravings change so much after surgery the things you are worried about now will probably not be an issue and you will be surprised at the issues that pop up. LOL! Good luck and I know you will do great!

LOVE LOVE LOVE Water. Is it hard to get it down?

@@utahgirll

the common/frequent expression on the board is

"the one thing we have in common, is that we're all different"

post op i had no problems drinking water

some people do have issues/problems drinking for awhile

drinking room temperature Water helps some people

many others add crystal lite for flavor

you are told at first to take small sips at a time

eventually/shortly when "you grow up" ;)

your NUT will tell you its ok to drink more than sips at a time

eventually being able to gulp

"i'll give it a 95% that maybe/probably/kindof/hopefully/i doubt/not sure/most likely you will not have any problems drinking water

that is what i definitely know (i think) ;)"

actually - i'm not sure :(

good luck hun :)

I am excited for your new healthier, happier, longer life :)

good luck

speedy recovery

I drink Gatorade, which I still hate, because it is what is good for me post MGB. I was a big Water drinker before and had the same concern you have. At the beginning it was hard to gulp liquids down. Months down the road I can gulp some liquids a couple of gulps at a time instead of small zips. I drink Water occasionally, just plain. Most of the time I drink it now is with a fresh squeezed lemon and some ELETE Electrolytes drops in it. It takes time, but you will get used to it. I do it like this by my surgeon's guidance. Others may tell you different. Just sharing my journey with you.

I'm 12 days post and I have zero problems with liquids... I can seemingly drink as much as I want when I want. I'm mainly drinking low-cal gatorade, but have tried my hand at a few glasses of Water and it was rather uneventful. It went down, easy peasy

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
