I'm a vet, I'm a vet....I'm a vet, vet, vet........ :D Well......in truth, I was already a vet. The military kind anyway. But now, I'm a Bariatric Pal vet and have reached my goal to boot.

Soo, what'da we do in here guys......??? Measure each other's sleeves...or what.????

I've been hearin that "older and wiser" crap for years......there's gotta be more to BP's vet room than just that.....

just kiddin.......I'm just rambling......It feels good to reach my goal and know that even with a long and tough struggle, I was able to make it.

It should have a category of it's own.......and Vet sounds like a pretty good one. Glad to be here. ;-)

Welcome!!!! I also reached my goal at week 52! So excited....but what do we do here? We talk about how different Year One is from Year Two, Year 3 and so on. And we encourage each other to stay real and keep our selves together for the progress we have accomplished and to never, ever go back to the way we were....because as a vet , we know we can.....so welcome aboard...nice to have a man here!

That...is...so...fan...tastic! Congratulations on making it to goal -- you must be very proud!!!!! So now, what's your plan for maintenance? Seriously, those of us who are getting close would love to keep hearing how you're doing. And if you learn any tricks that we can follow, please share them. Good luck in the next phase of your journey!!!

So now, what's your plan for maintenance? Seriously,

I really don't plan on doing anything different. It doesn't actually feel like a finish line. I've gotten used to my new eating habits and foods and exercise routines, so I plan on just continuing the same from here on out. I'm even gonna keep the mindset that my goal is farther off in the distance.....as in a couple of years. I want the new pattern to get set in stone before I let up......Besides.....I don't really miss anything, so it's not about cravings or wrong foods. I think keeping up the exercise will be the challenge.

All new territory for me....so we'll see. I will be paying very close attention to the vets and how they maintain as well. ;)

That's kind of my thought too. But in case you need it, here's what my doc said when I asked about maintenance.... If you want to introduce some carbs, choose only the ones that you would cook for a meal (brown rice, sweet potato, pasta), not anything you would go to the pantry for a handful of. I know you'll do great!!!

That's a GREAT suggestion from your doc. A very simple and obvious criterion.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
