One week later - back to work!

Recommended Posts

Today is exactly one week from surgery. At this time last week I was on the operating table under anesthesia. I have come back to work today and will see how it goes. My job is mentally draining but not physically demanding. No one here knows about the surgery so I need to put on my best "yes my vacation was SO relaxing" face and suck it up!

At least I only work 2 days and then have a weekend to recover again!

My surgeon said one week, and realistically I can't be gone from my job more than that. Of all things my lower back is hurting. I think it's a combination of Constipation and not having been upright for this many hours in a week! I took some regular Tylenol and I'm slowly sipping my Protein Shake hoping for an energy boost!

@@BloomingLotus You and I were sleeved on the same day and you're a better person than I! I only left the HOUSE for the first time yesterday. Good luck to you!

@@greatestnameever you still win... Coming to work was the first time I left the house! I'm halfway through, chugging along. Honestly my commute was the hardest part! I'm in nyc and walk about 3/4 of a mile to get to an elevated subway, where I have to take 4 flights of stairs up. I switch to a different subway and have 5 more flights of stairs up after that. Getting in was the true test! At least going home all the stairs are walking down :)

I was sleeved last Wednesday and returned to work this Tuesday. (So I was off 6 days) I have a mentally draining desk job as well. It's totally doable, I am just really drained at the end of the day. I had the same back pains on that first day back too. Good luck for the rest of the week! ;)

Glad you are doing well:)

I have went into my office once this week for a half day and then go back Friday this week too. My surgery was same day!! Feeling great besides being fatigued easily.

@@Sleeveme15 you're brave! I thought I was crazy about the back pain, at least I know it's normal! How have you been since?

@@greatestnameever how fun!! We should keep each other updated on our progress and maybe down the road meet up for a tall glass of Water or a frosty Protein shake hahaha! I take the F from Brooklyn to the A and then the 2. The escalator was out of service at Fulton street today too. Oof.

Overall I'm just a little sleepy, but I'm finding this do-able. I'm certainly not as productive as pre-sleeve, but I'm also skipping a morning and afternoon coffee too! It's taking me an entire day to get in a whole Protein Shake (pre-made GNC total lean - 14oz) and I'm just starting my 2nd 24oz water bottle. It's definitely easier to drink at home when you have less distractions!

I will be sleeved on the 16th and will be taking "vacation", and was wondering what it will be like after a week

@@VGB I think it really depends on your job, the energy required and your duties. Normally my job has me out of the office and running around, but thankfully in winter it slows down and I have more office days (read: less physically demanding).

I'm fully capable of getting in my Protein and Water, but being at work makes it a challenge for sure.

Today's challenge: my office mate is in today and brought in the most delicious smelling lunch in the history of delicious smelling lunches *sigh* I'll be force-feeding myself my chocolate Protein shake if you need me haha

I was sleeved 1 week ago and only allowed out of hospital today. My whole abdomen is black with bruising. I am nearly at 40oz Fluid, and meals are Soup and jelly with plenty of beef tea in between. Since starting my pre-op until yesterday I have lost 25.5lbs and am really chuffed with that loss. 11lbs has been since I was sleeved x

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
