Sharon1964 2,530 Posted February 6, 2015 Why do you feel the need to hit rock bottom before you're ready for the surgery? Aren't you ready now? Have you examined your motivations for getting the surgery? Have you accepted that what you're eating, and the way you're eating, is slowly killing you? Why would you want to keep doing that? I may very well be wrong, but it seems like you're trying to see what you can get away with before the surgery. It IS possible to gain weight after the surgery. Find something else that gives you pleasure, and substitute that for what you're craving now.
chunkyloverlovesyou 197 Posted February 6, 2015 Uh because I am a food addict with poor impulse control. If you can't sew my mouth shut, the next best thing would be my stomach. I will figure t out from there
Rncbarbie 33 Posted February 6, 2015 So the psychologist told me this procedure does not work for people with food Addictions or binge hAbits. Need to examine your relationship with food. I know quite a few that had procedure and now are gaining weight cause doing same thing now that they did before surgery.

yogachick 56 Posted February 6, 2015 Surgery doesn't work for people with food addictions or binge habits? Wait... So it won't work for 99% of us? I have to call BS on that one. Most of us are here because of food addiction.
JamieLogical 8,713 Posted February 6, 2015 (edited) Surgery doesn't work for people with food addictions or binge habits? Wait... So it won't work for 99% of us? I have to call BS on that one. Most of us are here because of food addiction. I agree. That's exactly why I had the surgery. I was a binge eater and my sleeve will no longer allow me to binge. I would think the people the sleeve won't work for long term are people who graze and snack, since those things are still easy to do with the sleeve. Also, there are people who are just prone to self-sabotage, so if you have that mentality, I doubt the sleeve would work for you, because there are ways to eat around your sleeve. If you truly want to sabotage yourself, that's possible to do with the sleeve. Edit: To the OP, you are better off sticking to the pre-op diet. Don't mourn food. Eventually, with the sleeve, you can eat all those bad things you enjoyed before. You just might not enjoy them as much and you won't be able to eat as much of them. HalloweenBaby24 447 Posted February 6, 2015 Just because someone wants to indulge before surgery doesn't mean they won't be successful, I actually gained about 5lbs in the two weeks leading up to my surgery (Which was done here in the US and paid in full by my insurance). I don't think I gained on purpose it was more of me just feeling nervous and having this thought in the back of my head that I wouldn't be able to eat like this ever again, or these foods (Wrong) but I wasn't out for self-self sabotag. Here I am 5 months out come Sunday and 60lbs down.
samuelsmom 670 Posted February 6, 2015 @ This is not one of those "all or nothing" things. Before starting the one week liquid diet that my surgeon requires, I went out and enjoyed a nice dinner, however I didn't go crazy. I also kept a food journal and once a week ate whatever I wanted during my 3 month waiting period. Ny nutritionist said that was fine as long as it was only 1 day and it was reasonable portions. Not sure how I would have managed eating just rabbit food. I also ate a small amount of dark chocolate every day which my NUT also approved! I lost 27 pounds pre-op which was great! Good Luck. I will figure t out from there You might want to do some research on food addicts anonymous. To be successful with the surgery, your mindset and relationship with food has to change. Go to foodaddicts.org and look into the good addicts book. I have attended a meeting in ny area and plan to continue after surgery. Even though most of the stories I heard were extreme, I was Enlightened about a lot and I've changed my mindset about food. Surgery is not going to help if you aren't going to do the work. Most of us are here because of some kind of food addiction. The procedure isn't going to work if we don't learn to control impulses and if we don't pay attention to our relationship with food.....WLS is one tool. There are various others that, paired with WLS will help us be successful.
Babbs 14,681 Posted February 7, 2015 @@HalloweenBaby24 I concur. My doc required no pre op diet and you bet your sweet bippy I enjoyed a couple of "food funerals" pre op. Obviously at almost 6 months out I can eat pretty much anything now, except the delicious craft beer I made sure to get my fill of before surgery, so food funerals I've learned now aren't really necessary. But it WAS fun while it lasted! Anyhoo, I'm doing just fine at almost 55lbs lost.
Rncbarbie 33 Posted February 7, 2015 Honestly I'm glad you all said what I felt... I call bs on him as well but still sent in report thAt he was on the fence about procedure for me.. Why? I work out, run 5k but admitted I emotional eat at times.. Also said I have compliance problems... But as mom with kid with disabilities he comes first when it's needed and answered accordingly on test... Oh well
