My surgery date is March 5th and I am anxious about the pre-op diet while working full time. Has anyone done this? If so, what worked best for taking with you to work? How did you feel? Any tips on what might make this go as smooth as possible?

Thanks in advance :)

It depends on what your pre-op diet is. For me I have to have 3 Unjury Protein Drinks (after each meal) as well as 3 high Protein, low carb, sugar, and fat meals. I have been pretty nauseous just because my liver is flushing fat out and my body is going through a detox but I have been able to work with no issues.

I had my surgery on January 26th and my pre-op diet was hard cause i was thinking about all the food, i love and that i would not be able to eat for a while. I did two Protein Shakes a day and had one of my favorite meals. Some people today me i should have done better and soon and so on but to my surprise i lost 6lbs in that week. I am 9 days out and 15lbs down as of yesterday. Make the Protein work because this is what you will struggle with after surgery. Find something u like. The Premeir Protein shakes from Sams are great and have 30 grams in each serving. Good luck.

pI had to lose 18 pounds pre op, i did two shakes a day one for Breakfast and one for lunch then a big salad with Protein in it ( hard boiled egg, pepperoni, chicken breast or tuna. no sugar, in 1.5 months i lost 30 pounds. I do question why someone would eat a meal and follow it with a Protein shake unless youre trying to gain weight. Protein Shakes have calories so to add them to 3 meals a day seems very off. I reccomend Syntrax Nectars shakes, you can getthe variety pack of flavors for cheap. you can also watch my video taste tests online on my blog at http://cuttingthefatwithaknife.blogspot.com

Good luck and

You can do it

It does seem off but my surgeon has very strict guidelines as to what the meals can consist of and basically its protein and raw veggies and the amount of calories per item of protein is limited as well. The meals are much smaller so there is a decrease in caloric intake to make room for the shakes which are only about 100 calroies each (or about 180 if I mix them with milk). In combination with the shakes its a normal amount of calories. The day before surgery its nothing but Clear Liquids and nothing with red dye.

As i have read, it really depends on your doctor. Good luck either way.

My surgeon's instructions are all liquids for 2 weeks prior, and Clear Liquids only on the day before. Did anyone else do this?

My pre Op diet is 2 Protein and one meal with protein and 3 non starchy veggies. So far it is going well.

My pre op diet has to equal 1000 calories 4-5 shakes, low sodium broth, sugar free Jello or sf Popsicles and no more than 2 cups of low carb veggies. I'm on day two, too bad they don't have pizza flavored shakes! ;)

Hi...I am in Australia & I am now on my 2 week pre-op liquid diet which consists of 3 shakes a day, salad with lunch & steamed veggies with dinner. I slowly started the shakes 4 weeks ago...I spent 4 days doing 1 shake per day with 2 high Protein, no carb meals, then the next 10 days having 2 shakes & 1 high protein, no carb meal. My 1st 3-4 days were very hard....detoxing consisted of headaches, irritability, Constipation etc...but then all of a sudden I felt good. Now that I have started my 3 shakes a day, I don't feel bad at all or hungry! I am still learning to eat when actually hungry & not because my mind is imagining all the foods I LOVE eating..lol!!

We here in Australia are recommended to the Optifast product, not sure of you guys have it in the States but it also comes in soups...VLCD plus high in protein!

Good Luck & Stay strong!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
