Hi Everyone. I apologize I have not been on. I had my surgery on Monday and had my IV's in for my liquids and pain meds. Day 2 was rough for me. I could not handle sips of Water or oral pain meds. Every time I sipped on water, took oral pain meds, or stood up I would get nauseaous and drive heave. Let me tell you, dry heaving after stomach surgery is pretty rotten. BUT today I was able to take fluids, they found out that the taste of the liquid pain killers were making me gag so they adjusted it to a pill and now I am home in my own bed. I am sore, but I am so happy to be home. I have been up and walking, I have not really had any of the gas pain yet. Sorry if I worried anyone, I got ya'lls private messages and I appreciate everyone looking out for me. I am doing well. Sitting up straight is a little rough, but I didn't want to make anyone worry. I will log on later :)

Me me me!! I just had my surgery date confirmed today for March 9 as well and I am the first case that morning at 7:30am :). While I am excited, I am also a tad bit nervous too! While I have had two prior c-sections, I am still nervous as all get out about the post op time immediately afterwards!! I really do not want to be nauseated or in a ton of pain! I am looking forward to getting my life back on track, to being able to breathe better at night when I sleep, to having the lymphedema in my right leg improve, to being able to exercise longer without being so out of breath, to helping my heart become healthier and stay that way and to being able to get into some of my smaller sized clothing!! Are you nervous? What are you looking most forward to?

Did you have your surgery?? If so, how are you doing?? I'm scheduled for March 26th????

Hi! I am having my surgery done March 19th! I am half way through my liver shrinking diet & doing ok with that now. It was awful the first three days, but much better now. I had some unusual circumstances getting to the end of my 7 month program before I could get approved. My PCP office wouldn't fax anything to my surgeon & lied to me time and time again. I had to pick up everything & fax it myself. Some of the paperwork was so sloppy the insurance company couldn't read it & it had to be redone. My doctors office didn't believe that the insurance company rejected his handwriting & they laughed at me & ridiculed me. Then they wouldn't call me back or the surgeons office back. When it was all said & done I was a month behind schedule, a patient rep from my insurance company had to make a surprise visit to my doctor to get it done, and of course now I am looking for a new doctor lol! Anyways it was a very stressful time & I started to feel like it wasn't going to happen. Well it is happening (Yay!) and I am nervous & excited like most people I think. I feel like I am informed, supported, & as ready as I can be but I am having the worst time sleeping. I don't sleep well normally but this is bad. Also I am having a lot of bad or vivid dreams. I guess it is just worry & stress. Anyone else experiencing this? I am a worrier, I do get anxiety sometimes but not on a level of disrupting my life or needing a prescription.

Spicy I am so happy you are doing okay!!! I was one of the worriers I have to admit. You are the first person that I've read about that didn't suffer from that horrible gas pain but it sounds like you had your own issues. You poor thing...that had to be rough having the dry heaves with incisions in your belly. I hope that you're healing and I will keep you in my thoughts. Let us know how it's going. Are you just drinking Water now? Able to take in anything else?

Hey Jill,

I appreciate the worrying! Yes I have been very lucky and blessed that I have not gotten the gas pains. Yesterday I was able to take small sips of Water and a little Jello. The problem is I'm not hungry. At all. today I'm going to try a shake and see how that goes. As for pain I get up and walk around and my pain meds are keeping everything manageable. It's all worth it in the end!

Hi gang -had surgery on Monday 3/9. All has gone well thank God. First night was horrible with gas pain - would have sworn I was having a heart attack. Day 2 that got better - so did the walking..no issues with leak test except the stuff that make u drink is the worst crap EVER. Have had no issues with intake at hospital or home. My doc gave me option to go home after 1 night - but I opted for two nights in hospital - so so glad I did!!! All the pre-op is worth it...hang in ...stay strong ..pray & get support from family & friends..it is all worth it!! Good luck to all

i too hadsomr issurs with PCP. He was dead set against this surgery. I have been fighting him on it for about 3 years. Realizing i pay his wage, i basically told him im going to do what im going to do....your either going to support me or not. Of course he is looking at just the potential negatives....which sucks to have a dr whose focus is there. At any rate, youll be fine...just get it into your head that "you CAN do this". Take care!!

Hello, Just joined this group because i am having terrible anxiety about my upcoming surgery, which is on 3/27/2015. I am very excited but i think my excitement is taking the back burner to my anxiety. I find my self up at 4 or 5 in the morning just running though so many things in my head. I am a self pay patents so my first consultations was in early February. I don't know if its because everything is happening so fast or because i haven't gone through months of monitoring, but I am so afraid that I am going to fail. I have watched youtube videos, read comments on support pages, and asked my doctor questions, but nothing has really put me at ease. I think I feel unprepared. I am about to start my pre-liquid diet on Friday and haven't even got my Protein supplement, which I will get before Friday but its just another stress. Anyway This is my last hope so the fear of failing is very really. I know I have to put in lots of work and I am more then willing to do that but I am worried that old habits will come back in a year or 2 yrs that what i keep reading at least. Anyway and thoughts and advice are welcome!

. Yep, did all that too. Prepped for about 7 months during my waiting period. All of a sudden felt like I had forgotten everything I learned, but just took one day at a time. Now 1 week post op and starting to feel completely normal (except I get full after about 3 bites). Use the sample menus as much as possible until you get comfortable with the new process. I literally wrote myself a schedule this week. Down 16 pounds including my 1 week pre op. Also might help to talk to a counselor to get at the root of the fear. Good luck to you. :-)

I found a few books helpful. I especially liked one titled THE SLEEVED LIFE. I also read some blogs VSG patients wrote over the first year of their journey. I think it's normal to second guess ourselves as we get closer to surgery but remember why you started this. If you still are not sure you may not be ready yet.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
