I had my surgery 5 days ago. More pain than I anticipated, and when I checked my weight after 5 days, I was surprised to see I'd lost no weight. I've eaten nothing for 5 days and lost 0 lbs. know I remember why diets always failed. Guess those IVs are high calorie!

I'm afraid to even weigh myself! I had surgery on Tuesday and I actually feel huge. I know it's likely because everything inside is still swollen and I'm still working out a lot of gas so I do know in my head that I haven't gained any weight. Just don't think my heart could handle seeing a higher number on the scale. I think I'm gonna wait until I'm al least walking upright lol
It's completely normal to even put on a few lbs in first few days due to the fluids they give U during surgery and after! It can take up to a week after surgery to start losing it all, I went up 4lb after surgery and then only lost it bout a week ago and I am 16days post

Yes I agree, don't get discouraged! My Nut said that my weight might be up that first week from the fluids, and surgery in general. You have swelling & Fluid retention sometimes. I lost 10lbs the first week & I wasn't sure what was normal so when my doctors office called me to check on me yesterday I asked them and they said sometimes people don't even loose anything for a few weeks and they are really embarrassed, but then they lose 100lbs over the next six months! Everybody is different & it's too early to worry!

Last night was my third night since the sleeve and it was a HUGE improvement from the previous night. I think I got rid of most of the gas last evening, Gas-X, purpping (can be a little painful) and some tooting (Ladies present).

Still sore when I sit up, roll on my side, but was able to get good sleep other than waking up to take the pain meds. Take em on time before you get the pain and it will allow you to stay hydrated at least for me.

I forgot to mention, my surgery ended about 5pm on Wed, Thurs morning when I checked my weight right before going home I had gained 14lb, yep 14. 314 before surgery and 328 at check out. They said I had 6 bags of saline solution along with the waters I drank. They strongly urged me not to weight myself to often, once a week max. I go see Doc next Friday and I will weight in them.

I actually felt like I looked slimmer after surgery. I've never felt bloated. And I'm 4 days post and down 3 lbs since preop.

Hi, I had gained 8 of the 20 pounds I had lost pre-surgery after getting out of the hospital. I lost those 8 pounds in two days. This morning on the scale, I had lost 5 post surgery pounds. No worries, it will come off! ????

I love this board. So much support! I thought for sure I'd have lost 10 lbs. that stomach they took out had to have weighed a ton (being Iron and all).

It wasn't that bad to me. I was so worked up about the gas pains. Just ask for your pain meds and you'll be fine.

i had a PCA pump so when I felt gas pains start I push my button, so the gas pains weren't that bad for me either...thank goodness!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
