Well, I had found out from my surgeon back in September, that I would need a sleep study regarding my slee apnea... it has not been confirmed whether I have apnea or not. After multiple attempts to get it scheduled, I finally got a call this afternoon... I got is scheduled for next week :)

My surgeon also required a sleep study. Took awhile with scheduling, diagnosis of sleep apnea and treatment. Set my surgery back about a month and a half. Now that I've adapted to the CPAP, I sleep well and feel so much better ☺️

Good luck with your test!

Congrats! The required sleep study probably added years to my life.

I would never have gone if my surgeon didn't insist on it. Turns out I stop breathing 136 times an hour!!

Now I sleep right through the night on my machine and my average is now 1.4 times an hour. I didn't even know what it felt like to be well rested...

I had suspected that I had had sleep apnea for some time before I decided to get the sleeve. When I did decide to go for the sleeve, I took the sleep apnea test and found out I had it big time. Having sleep apnea was one of my qualifiers for getting the sleeve covered. I have had my CPAP machine since July and sleep a lot better. My dreams have returned after not having them for a long while. Finally, I was getting my REM sleep, where dreams originate. Five months after surgery and 60 lbs. later, and still using my CPAP machine, I feel better and rested after waking in the morning. I tell people to Google "Sleep Apnea" and find out the symptoms. If it seems as if you have some symptoms, go for the test(s). The test(s) is (are) annoying, but worth it. CPAP doctor said that breathing in more air will bring oxygen to my tissues and promote better metabolism. I hope he is right. No problem so far.

I dont want to have to use a CPAP. In theory, I could be having my surgery in about 2 months... I think I can just sleep the way I have been until apnea would resolve.... can't I?

There's no guarantee that the apnea will go away when you lose weight. Plus, if you have severe apnea like I do, you're putting yourself in danger of a heart attack or stroke. The CPAP is really not bad...

My husband has been telling me that he hears me gasp for air and stop breathing at night. I am going for my study on 2/9 so I am interested to see the outcome. If not for VSG I probably would just keep pushing it off.

The surgeon will likely require 2 weeks of cpap compliance pre-op, and you will have to take your cpap for recovery. I was able to do my sleep study at home because I had a nursing baby. I will be honest, I cannot sleep with the machine on. I have tried for months. So now I hook it up, and wear it while I watch tv at night, if I doze, it's a bonus, but it always ends up off, or waking me up. I just received clearance from the pulmonary doc, and I don't actually have apnea, I have "episodes." He said the memory card showed very little pressure being used anyways.

Hi! I'm new to this forum. After seeing a cardiologist, he ordered me to have a sleep study. I had it last Monday. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. When I was awoken to be put on a CPAP in the night, I knew what the result would be. I'm still waiting for a call from the sleep doctor. I had the same thought about not getting a machine, that I was going to have surgery in a few months, & why would I need it? After reading all of your good points on why I should get it, you made my decision easy to decide! I'm getting a machine!

It would be nice to do the study at home... my GP's nurse had actually said something about that, but my insurance won't cover that. It is my GP ordering the sleep study, not my surgeon... I guess right now, I have to wait and see... wait to have the test done, then see if I have apnea or not.

Make sure you discuss "bipap" or "variable pap" with your sleep study doctor. They are not as difficult to adjust to as the cpap, which gives continuous pressure. The others give pressure only when you need it.

Once I had my mask adjusted to fit me correctly, I had no trouble sleeping with the machine. If the mask is too loose, then when I turn over at night the mask comes loose, the machine blows in my face, and I wake up.

Now the only time I can't use it is when I have a cold or cough.

Hi...I'm a newbie & I'm from Australia. Not sure if thing are done extremely differently from country to country but after my initial consultation with my bariatric surgeon, I was advised to have a sleep test done. I truelly didn't believe that I had sleep apnea....as it turns out, I stop breathing 78 times/hour!!! I cried after my Dr called me to give me my results.

I was advised by my surgeon & a respiratory specialist that using a CPAP machine would not only benefit my recovery but also repair my health due to years of lack of oxygen. So I have been using my machine for a week now & its the most rested sleep I have had in a very LONG time.

My specialist advised that as I lost weight I would have to have another sleep test to see of any improvement & possibility of no longer requiring the machine.

Good Luck & do as the Dr advises!

Good to know! I haven't heard from my sleep doctor yet. They told me it would take a week to 10 days before I hear anything.

I justgot my results too! I have sleep apnea. They said I stopped breathing on average 7.2 time an hr at most 13 times an hour. This diagnosis just made me feel so horrible. I was recently diagnosed with diabetes and high blood pressure. So I just feel like my whoke health world is crumbling.....

I am so nervous of wearing any machine because I am already so sensitive when sleeping... :-(

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
