MamaTo3inNH 100 Posted February 3, 2015 Hey all! Im two weeks out from RNY today, and I've had diarrhea off and on since last night. Is this normal? Still eating mushy phase 2. Also is it normal for my pouch to be sensitive when I take even a sip of warm Water? I don't get a pain, but more like an uncomfortable sensation for a few seconds. Thanks in advance, I don't know where I'd be without this place!! ~RNY 1.19.
Djmohr 6,965 Posted February 3, 2015 Yes, what you are experiencing is normal. As you introduce more Protein into your system you will actually find yourself constipated. I would almost prefer the diarhea. I still find my pouch sensitive to ice Water and liquids that are too hot. For me I prefer cool or room temperature liquids. I am told that it will go away after some time.
James Marusek 5,244 Posted February 3, 2015 After surgery, I became lactose intolerant. In other words, when I drank a cup of milk, it was instant diarrhea. That went away after a couple months. Also the part of your stomach that processes fats and sugars has been cut away during the surgery. According to my nutritionist, your intestines will realize what is happening and evolve and begin to uptake fats and sugars. This transformation takes several months to happen. So it is important to avoid fats and sugars during the early months after surgery because they can also lead to diarrhea.
MamaTo3inNH 100 Posted February 3, 2015 Thanks!! I'm pretty sure it's not lac-intol, I've been tolerating my Protein Shakes made w/ skim milk just fine. Nothing specific giving me the diarrhea.
