KayGirl 3 Posted February 2, 2015 I'm just curious to all of you who travelled from Canada to Mexico to get your WLS, did you claim it on your income tax, and roughly how much was returned to you in comparison to what you paid? I'm just trying to look at all aspects of my decision to stay and wait for it to be completed in NL, or bite the bullet financially and go down to Mexico. Any help would be lovely! allyray 108 Posted May 9, 2015 I'm not sure about if you go to Mexico, but my surgeon is 3 hours away from my home and I can claim mileage, and my hotel stay each trip. I would just ask your accountant. Btw, I'm in New Brunswick and have a date for my sleeve on June 8th! I was referred back in 2009, so it has been a long wait. What are the wait times in NL? Is the surgery covered by Medicare there?
shiftymcgee 4 Posted May 28, 2015 I did claim it and it boosted the return by quite a bit. Alberta health also reimburses us around 2,000 dollars for it.
