Eating Uncomfortable

Recommended Posts

This is really taking a toll on my health. I am so tired and frustrated, I just want to feel

good again. I can't even be happy about all of the weight I have lost. I know this is not

normal and that most people have no trouble at all. I wouldn't want to frighten anyone into

not having the surgery, it is a remarkable tool for those of us who have had a weight problem since

birth. I am just one of those few that happened to have trouble. I was not in the best of

health at the time either so that may be one of my issues. Thank you for your advise.

Hi, I'm 4 months out and I still have a lot of issues with throwing up. Sometimes it's because I didn't chew well enough, sometimes because I didn't eat slow enough, sometimes because of the food I am eating and sometimes just because my sleeve has a wicked sense of humor. I definitely feel your pain. It's sad to say but getting sick doesn't bother me as much as it did early on. I actually started tracking it because I want to be able to tell if it starts happening less and less.

Do you eat solid food? I am only two months post op so maybe I will get better over time. I am very

exhausted all of the time and i assumed it was from not being able to eat solid food but maybe this

is normal. Thank you for your post, it was very encouraging.

I met my daughter today for lunch at Sonny's Bar-B-Cue and I had a cup of their chicken Noodle

Soup. My sister had given me some nausea pills so I took one of those before I left work to meet

her. For the first time in the two months since my surgery I was able to eat the broth from the

soup and didn't get sick. I know that doesn't sound dramatic to most but it was a great victory

for me. Oh God, I hope I am getting better. What a ride this has been... I hope I will be

able to keep this up. It is go nice to be able to share my thoughts and road blocks with others.

I would encourage you to contact your bariatric team and insist on being seen by the doc.

At the very least you could get anti nausea meds. Good luck and I'm sorry you are experiencing this.

I called my surgeon and they are going to do an upper GI to try and find out why I am throwing up

and can't eat. I sure hope this will put me on the right track to recovery.

Eat SLOW, very SLOW and CHEW, CHEW, CHEW! I had the same problem initially and it was because I wasn't waiting long enough between bites, taking too large of a bite, and not chewing it until it was almost not there. After I learned that, it got much easier. Best of luck to you and hope it gets better soon.

This is my best advice to people having trouble eating. Super slow. Take one teeny bite. If you are using regular sized utensils, you don't want more that ¼ of the spoon filled with food. Chew, chew chew until the food dissolves in your mouth. Then wait 2 minutes. 2 full minutes. Then if all is well take another bite, and repeat. It will take forever, but as long as the food is moist and soft enough it should be okay.

Chiming in with BLERDgirl, this is what got me through...just eating everything VERY SLOWLY...it's a bit annoying, but it does help you get through, get something in your system, and it does make you feel better...in time it does indeed get easier! I'm a little over a year out, and one thing that gets me now is seemingly the opposite. If I skip a meal and am very hungry, the next meal I have makes me a little bit uncomfortable...not painful, but just slight discomfort. Even though the meals are indeed smaller, they are important and should not be skipped.

Edavidson, sorry to hear about all the problems you are having. I'm only 5 days post op so don't yet know how I'm going to react but I was wondering, what if you tried just Soup (tomato), yogurt & pudding for a week just to see if that stays down

I am almost 5 wks post-op and having issues also with not being able to eat; I take 1 bite or sometimes 2 and right away I feel full and have a slight nausea. I'm not throwing up but feel queasy and then I start burping, 3 or 4 small burps in a row. I think I have too much acid, but when I contacted the surgeons office, they said I'm not chewing enough. I don't see the surgeon till next week. I'm thinking of starting omeprazole on my own, sort of to get "proof" I'm right about the acid, but not sure I should without a doctors ok. Just the thought of food sometimes makes me feel queasy, but I get really hungry! It's frustrating, my friend had her surgery 1 wk after me, same doc and same everything and she has no problems eating; I'm jealous!

@@gobsmacked Omeprazole is an over-the-counter medicine, so I don't see any reason why you wouldn't be able to safely start taking the OTC dosage at least. I experienced what you are describing for the first few weeks post-op, but it subsided by week 5. I'm glad you are going to see your surgeon next week, whether you start taking omeprazole in the mean time or not, because if you are experiencing that much discomfort this far out, it's worth getting checked out.

I will talk to my surgeon regarding the Omeprazole OTC. I have had so many responses to my problem

with nausea and vomiting. So many encouraging words and advise. I don't know what I would have

done without this website. I feel so discouraged that I can't get a handle on this by myself. The

hardest part is getting sick at work, it is very humiliating. I actually read that some surgeons

believe the patient has a psychological problem. That really made me feel like an idiot. I

personally don't believe it is from my surgery because I feel I would have a fever or something.

Hopefully the upper GI will eliminate that diagnosis. I am going to see my family physician as

well this week. She will find out what is wrong or at least give me something for the severe

nausea. Until I am going to the drug store and purchase the Omeprazole and see if that will help. Thank you all so much for the assistance. I still believe the surgery was not a mistake and at

some point I will feel normal again. For those who are having the same symptoms, hang in there because it has to get better eventually.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
