Hi my name is Meagan and I am 35, married and have 3 kids. I had surgery on January 20th 2015 and I am MISERABLE! My surgery went normal except my anatomy made the surgeon re-attach in a different area. My hospital stay was horrific. Bad patient care on the nurses side. On the 3rd day I got released home. My kids and spouse were awesome taking care of anything I needed but on Wednesday I started having excruciating pain where my JP drain was. Pain so bad I told my husband if he didn't come take me to the ER I was dialing 911. Once in the ER they tried to calm the pain but nothing was working. I had cried so much that the tears wouldn't come. Morphine, Diladid and Percacet wouldn't come close. I was automatically admitted back to the same unit I was discharged from and had a little melt down. That night I received excellent care! The next afternoon my surgeon came in to remove the drain because on my CT scan showed inflammation. I have never and I mean never felt pain like I did when he pulled that drain. I screamed like someone was trying to kill me. I was super close to the passing out stage because the pain was so intense. That night the crap patient care continued and I had no choice but to have her removed from my room. The following day my labs said I had an infection so I was on I.V. antibiotics all day. The next day my labs said my infection was on the mend but my kidneys were "angry". So I was pumped full of liquids. The following day I felt absolutely awful. Nausea, fever, shaking the whole enchilada. Now today, being Super Bowl Sunday I am still miserable. They aren't sure what is wrong but I feel like crap. I miss my kids and husband and my home. I'm hoping I feel better later on but as I sit here typing this I can feel the heat coming off my face. I think that if you are considering this surgery just to keep in mind its not all peaches. Hard stuff happens. But at the end of the day I'd do it again.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
