jeaniek 22 Posted February 2, 2015 So I am 6 months out. Everything has been going well but now all the sudden I can't sleep. I don't even know if there is something I can take over the counter to help.

starbuckscoffeegal 36 Posted February 2, 2015 Melatonin... It's all natural and something I take now. I even give it to my son, some nights.
anaxila 501 Posted February 2, 2015 (edited) Melatonin is good, but when I used to take it I had terrible daytime sedation - much worse than any prescription sleep aid I've ever used. Also, Nyquil has a ton of sugar - 13g per dose. I believe they may have a sugar-free version, but you definitely want to look at the labels. The nurse practitioner on my surgical team suggested Benadryl for sleep for bariatric patients. Edited February 2, 2015 by anaxila
jjwhitman 19 Posted February 3, 2015 5 mg of melatonin (low dose) makes me drowsy. However, if you are on any type of anti-depressant or anxiety medication, it will give you a terrible hangover (feel sleepy) the next day.
MisforMimi 760 Posted February 3, 2015 jjwhitman, maybe that's what happened to me this morning. Felt majorly hungover from melatonin. First time taking since surgery with anti depressant....hmmm....
starbuckscoffeegal 36 Posted February 3, 2015 I suffer from insomnia and take Melatonin and have never had any side effects. I used to take Benadryl but that is how I eventually became an insomniac.
