The trick is getting good ones! I used the Bariatric Advantage, caramel-flavored. They were such a treat I looked forward to them!

What kind are you using? I'm using Tums ultra-strength (like I used before surgery) and it goes down OK.

I use Bariatric Advantage orange flavor. It tastes like an orange starburst. Yummy!

CVS has a great generic brand that taste like fruit candy! I also like the Viactiv calcium chews. :)

If you'd really rather not get a chewable, try Blue Bonnet liquid! They literally taste like jam and go down so smooth. I remember mixing it in with a Peanut Butter flavored Protein shake and it was like having PBJ! :)

FYI....not all chewable Calcium are the right kind. Usually the ones you find at Walmart, CVS and costco are calcium carbonate, Tums are calcium carbobate as well. Bariatric patients should take calcium citrate, that is what I was told by my nutritionist and surgeon.

The Bariatric Advantage are good. Calcet Creamy Bites are good, they come in lemon and chocolate. You can find them on drugstore.com

The cost got to be too much for me so I take calcium citrate pills now.

Darn. My doc said I have to do all chewable powder type the 1st month and yes it's calcium citrate. Very hard to find elsewhere. I can't stand these. The caramel sounds much better. I'm going in tomorrow and see if they will let me switch

I just got regular and crushed them then cover them with a tsp of almond butter. I got chewable samples from Bariatric Choice. The caramel/starburst like ones were good. The other chewable pills were nasty. I now just swallow them

The trick is getting good ones! I used the Bariatric Advantage, caramel-flavored. They were such a treat I looked forward to them!

Those are good but too candy like for me. Also Pricey for the amount you need to take a day.

As mentioned Tums is Calcium carbonate, not citrate. Citrate is better for absorption and what is recommended for bariatric patients.

My NUT and Surgeon have me taking Flintstone Complete chewable tablets twice a day. They aren't bad but I swallow them whole. I am 4 months out hoping that they will change them when I go back in March.

Tums are Calcium carbonate. It's recommended that bariatric patients take calcium citrate. I had taken tums for calcium for years prior to my sleeve, but my surgeon had me switch to citrical post-op.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
