PCOS Question!

Recommended Posts

Hello! I am a new pre op member and had a question about fertility. I am scheduled for my sleeve 03/02 and was wondering about contraceptives.

My significant other and I are currently 'gambling' in the protection dept, with minimal fear of conception. Due to my PCOS, I suffer from amenorrhea, so we aren't to concerned about me ovulating right now.

I have read stories of women saying they are asked to not take their BCP weeks leading up to surgery because of the blood clot risk.

Did any of you take other precautions if so what? When did you start it?

Thank you in advance!

My sister-in-law has really bad PCOS and missing periods, yet she was able to conceive two children, so don't think it can't happen to you and ruin your surgery plans!

I also had PCOS (cleared up two days after surgery), but I have a copper IUD so I didn't need to take pills for protection. The nice thing about the IUD is once you decide you want to start trying, you can just have it removed and there is no recovery time in terms of how soon you can conceive.

Remember that you shouldn't get pregnant for at least two years after your surgery (my surgeon recommended 3-4 ideally), so don't play too fast and loose.

I think it depends on the dr and the bc. I am allowed to take my pills right up until the day before surgery and I'm encouraged to start taking it again about a week after surgery. I would call and ask your surgery team before changing your current bc, investing in a bunch of stuff, or stopping using your bc.

I also have PCOS and they wanted me off of birth control pills one month before my surgery date cause of risk for blood clots. My BF and I are just using the standard condom protection until I'm up and running again

How did your PCOS "clear up" in 2 days? Im confused? My endocrinologist told me I could eliminate my PCOS when I reached a healthy body weight. And I stopped taking my metformin once I had surgery but I'm confused by what you mean. Can you please clarify? Thanks!

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
