I know I have heard about stalling with weight loss after surgery. I lost 13 lbs before surgery and a total of 30 lbs since surgery which was Dec. 22.

I have not only stalled for the past 2 weeks, I have also gained almost a pound - really?? How can you gain weight when you can hardly eat anything? I eat all of my Protein plus, keep it low carb, low fat and low sugar. I can not even eat 1,000 cal - which is hard for me learning you are suppose to eat 1200 calories a day. Like most there are days I find it hard to get 64 ounces of liquids an others I surpass what they require. I do not get as much exercise as I would like but working 10+ hrs a day, have tons of snow and frigid temps and not able to afford a gym makes it a bit difficult.

I would not say the surgery was the wrong choice becz I already feel better. Not being able to eat what you want, feeling sick with things you loved, gaining weight etc... I guess I am starting to feel sorry for myself. Maybe I would have been ok with the stall if I did not gain weight for no reason but I am now getting very frustrated and upset.

Please tell me this will be over soon. ????

30 POUNDS down! do not lose sight of that! That's an incredible accomplishment and because you said you're already feeling better that's a great goalpost you just passed!

Stalls are common and many are just part of your body adjusting post-surgery. I had two stalls of almost a month each, but weight loss did kick back into gear. Yes, it can be disappointing, but I also tried to not lose sight of the accomplishments: sleep apnea cured, pre-diabetes cured, cholesterol cured, high blood pressure cured. There is SO much more than just the weight loss along the way.

It looks like you're doing everything right and you will be able to eat a wider variety of foods as you get further out, so don't get overly-concerned over a stall. Having a wider variety of food choices can actually be a challenge because those include calorie-dense foods that packed our weight on the the first place. For now, try and maintain focus on a healthier lifestyle and don't forget that you are giving yourself a longer, healthier life!

I had surgery on 12/22 as well and I have been going through the same thing. I have a higher bmi and thought weight would just fall off..... Had to have a reality check. When is the last time you have lost 30 pounds in just over a month? The answer for me is never. Be strong and stay the course keep sip sip siping. Track your food and keep it moving. I am Tentering between 321-323. For a week now. My starting weight was 359 after surgery I was 356 mostly Water weight . We can do this!

I know the feeling!! I gained a little and I'm a little more than 2 weeks out! I was freaking out because how can I gain when I barely eat anything! I've actually stopped getting on the scale because I want to stay stress free. I need to learn to trust that this is a process and gaining a little is normal.

I'm working on focusing on fluids and Protein.< /p>

Everyone will hit a stall...or two....or three.........ugh! Its part of the process. Your body is adjusting to this whole thing. Stay off the scale for a week and then recheck. You will probably not get anywhere near 1200 for a while. That's normal too. I am closing in on 6 mths and am suppose to be at 1200 right about now. I am lucky to get in 950. Most of the time I hover around 850 to 900. As far as gaining......I promise this is part of the process too. I was told it is Water and metabolism adjusting. These stalls are brutal! Personally I think its a winter thing too. Typically I have a very hard time losing weight in the winter. I eat saltier things....chili and Soups....the winter comfort foods. And exercising is harder if you don't have a gym membership and cant get outside. I have a treadmill in my basement but its just as cold down there as it is outside! I struggle to get down there 3 days a week.

Relax. Unless you are eating chips, candy and other junk in between your healthy meals I can promise this is just the huey you can expect every now and again as you ride this rollercoaster : ) Hang in there! It will start falling off again soon, no doubt!

Congratulations! You have reached The Dreaded Week-3 Stall. It's perfectly normal, and just about all of us have suffered through it. You're not crazy, and your doctor didn't screw up. In fact, you might not lose any weight for two weeks or even longer. But don't worry – after that, the weight will start falling off if you stick to your program. And, the inches will continue to come off even while the scale isn't budging. Here's a good article that explains why it happens and why we all have to go through it. Hang in there. Pretty soon it'll be in the rear-view mirror and you'll be dropping weight again!

(Apologies to BP regulars who have seen this repeatedly, but it's a big deal to those who are going through it!)

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
