Surgery on 16 February 2015 - getting scared

Recommended Posts

@ Love the sleeps count!! 4 more!! We are almost there! Sorry you are having a rough time. Wish I had some wonderful wise words, but I can only tell you to hang in there. Here you are wanting to toss your veggies and I would LOVE to have some! :) I have a decent variety of high Protein bariatric food products available to me as long Im within the 800 - 900 cal range and get a minimum of 65g of Protein, but I am not allowed to add any veggies or other foods at all. :( I would kill for a steamed anything at this point!! lol We can do this! I will be praying for you!

@Doll64 I had a couple rough days with the pre op diet, I guess my only stress was being worried that I wouldn't be able to follow such a strict diet. As far as being nervous about the procedure and if Ive, made the right choice, Im, not stressed or nervous at all! I know I have made the right decision. Ive been praying and researching myself silly over the last year and am perfectly confident in my choice. Im not afraid of the actual surgery at all. I work in the hospital where I am having the procedure and its wonderful to be in the hands of people I personally know. I am blessed. I have had several other surgeries so there won't be many surprises for me!

If there's something wrong with you then Im right there with you!!

Well.....thought I would update everyone....my husband got his sleeve yesterday! He is doing much better today! He was pretty snowed most of the day after surgery as he got had to have IV dilaudid a few times while his morphine pca kicked in! He has had no nausea issues, said the leak test wasn't bad. He is very sore but doing well. Will probably go home tomorrow. He appreciated the gas-x strips, however getting up to walk seemed to get better results (burped all down the halls...lol). I started my preop diet yesterday....so far ok....13 days to go!

Mine is the MONDAY Feb 16th also. I'm nervous and scared as well. My mom just gave me a box of sees candy for valentines. I was like thanks but no thanks. I guess I well regift it. She just forgot I guess. That is awesome you have mentors at work people you know. I don't know anyone who has had WLS.

I have been tracking on my food on Myfitnespal and I have a Garmin fitness band with heart monitor I have been using daily that connects to Myfitnespal. I have been using for about 7 months. I love it and it is easy for me. Good luck to us on this new beginning.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
