I love sushi!! I am about 5 months out and tried a few times and my stomach can't handle rice! I am determined and keep trying and get the same results...a sick belly! But everyone tolerates things differently! Good luck!!

I'm saddened for the responses, lol, but sushi won't keep me from my goals.

I LOVE sushi, and one of my current anticipations is that I'll be able to eat sashimi for a while and then I'll try a sushi roll later on. I'm going to Japan in a few months so fingers crossed that all will be well!

For me, post surgery the sticky rice is deadly. Tried it only once and it felt like I swallowed a bowling ball. Too bad as it was one of my favorite foods pre op.

Golden rule of this surgery is that there are very few rules on what you will and will not be able to tolerate post-operatively. Rice, dense breads, Pasta, fibrous vegetables - they all commonly cause problems, but not with everyone. Once you're allowed, take it very slow and chew a LOT. chew about twice as long as you normally would pre-operatively, and then chew for a while longer.

I am 2.5 months out and have had sushi maybe twice. It's one of our favorite meals (we just don't eat out often). I can eat 3 small pieces (sometimes just two). The rice gives me no problem, but if you don't want it or it gives you issue, just ask them to wrap it without rice ???? seaweed or soy/rice paper wraps the fish up nicely. You will hardly miss the rice. Cheers!

I'm 2 months post op and I love sushi too but I can't have much of the rice. Order the shashimi instead, if your from Hawaii POKE rules! Anyways I still share sushi with friends/family from time to time and just eat the center lol.

I am a little over 5 months post op and I loved sushi before and I was afraid I would be never eat sushi again. I few weeks back I went for sushi and enjoyed a few pieces of rolls with rice and another roll made with cucumber. I didn't feel sick at all because I chewed for a long time and I know my limits. 65lbs down and I feel great.

I'm pre op and wondering if people post op are able to stomach sushi months post surgery.

I'm only 3 weeks out and I'm praying hard that I can tolerate rice still (of course much later down the road lol). I love Asian food and while I'm glad a lot of it is meat and veggies, I love the rice and noodles. I'm planning on going to South Korea sometime in the future and here is hoping I can still eat some kimbap!

I was wondering about this!!! I can't wait to try it because I know I'll only need a couple of pieces of sashimi to be satisfied instead of a buffet.

6 months out, been eating sushi since 4 months out. Rice doesn't bother my sleeve guess I must be lucky or unlucky, depending on whether you think rice is good for you to eat, whether white or brown.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
