Pain Meds post surgery

Recommended Posts

My doctor prescribed some pain medication in liquid form for after my surgery. I have called MANY pharmacies and no one has it in stock or can get it until the soonest 2/9. My surgery is 2/4 if all goes well will be home from what I'm being told 2/5. My question is how many of you needed the pain medication. If I can't get it filled will I be in unbearable pain? I know each person has a different pain tolerance level just curious what some of you had to say.

Thanks

That's awful! I would check and see if the hospital pharmacy can and will fill it for you. They should have it stocked. If not telly our doctors office maybe they can help you track it down in time. Good luck!!

Didn't think about checking with the hospital will do that thanks. Planning to call the doctor on Monday for his suggestions. Annoyed with my regular pharmacy. Dropped off the script a week ago and just called today, the weekend of all times, to tell me about the delay.

Definitely pick the script back up and try another pharmacy you could probably call around and find one. That's rude they made you wait a week!

Thanks I picked it back up and called around most places are telling me its not a commonly ordered script and will take 10 days to get in. Others like Walgreen's won't even tell me if its in stock over the phone because its a controlled substance. Been a real headache.

Originally the week wasn't so bad because I had the time, but then they said it didn't come in that shipment like they expected and that's when they gave me the 2/9 date...Ugggggg

I got my liquid from the hospital pharmacy as well. They know that patients will have a need, and tend to carry the dissolvable & liquid forms. Definitely worth checking out!

I didn't get liquid pain meds until day after surgery and it came right back up. After that they gave it thru iv. The 3rd day out it took me a while to drink the liquid. They gave me a dose before discharge too. I have only used about 2ozs of it since being home.

I found the liquid at Walgreens. I'm betting you will too. If not, get the pill form, crush it and take with a spoon full of something to mask the flavor -- bouillon will work. Good luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
