lucy0911 58 Posted January 31, 2015 So i was told that after surgery it wasn't uncommon to have the scale read higher at my first appt because of the swelling and such, however, when i went i was twelve pounds down. Now that was five days ago and now in those five days I have only lost three pounds. I am only on the soft food part of my diet so eating about two tablespoons of greek yogurt or three ounces of Protein shake. How can I hit a plateau already? loriemoms 101 Posted January 31, 2015 I dont think 3 lbs in 5 days is bad. Remember the first 5 to 10 lbs is Water. But if you think you have hit a plateau then you might not be eating enough. Really!
IcanMakeit 1,318 Posted January 31, 2015 I think we're better off if we stay off the scale for the first six weeks after surgery. The scale is a big ol' liar until our bodies adjust. This is not a plateau. Stick with your program and prepare to be amazed at your progress six months from now.
MichiganChic 3,262 Posted January 31, 2015 Better check the definition of plateau, and adjust your expectations. If you expect to lose a pound a day, you are most certainly going to be disappointed. WLS is not a magic guarantee of steady and rapid weight loss. As time goes on, you'll learn how your body releases weight - but a human body can only lose so fast. Thinking that losing 3 pounds in 5 days is slow, a stall, or a plateau is only going to frustrate you. You're doing great - you'll see!
lucy0911 58 Posted February 1, 2015 I don't have unrealistic expectations. It just seemed strange to loose such then so little..thought it would be more of a steady gradual. Forgot about the Water thing though. Makes more sense.
