10 days til my Gastric Bypass Procedure.

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone:

My name is Rydell. I am 20 years old and from Pennsylvania. My entire life I've been struggling with my weight. I'm 5' 9" tall. My current weight is 290 pounds but my highest was 311 pounds. It'd be up, down, then wayyyy back up. Dieting for months and months wasn't successful. Meeting with dietitians and sticking to a 1600 calorie intake wasn't successful. The gym 6 days a week was successful for only a short time, then it all bounced right back on. I finally broke down talked to my family doc ably some weight loss pills..his response was, "what about surgery?" I was scared at first. But it was that very moment that I decided it was time to start the journey that would take me through the rest of my life. After doing a required 6 month weigh in program through my insurance, my surgery date is right around the corner. February 10th yall. I am doing my 2 week pre-op diet and I'm struggling. Any ideas on that? Was anyone only required to do one week liquid diet prior to surgery? Any one around my age experience sagging skin that doesn't bounce back? Any advice welcomed on any topic of the gastric bypass!!!! Just no crude criticism. ❤️

Thank you all,

Rydell post-246972-14227209551796_thumb.jpg

Look at it like this. Your pre-op diet would so much easier if you already had the surgery. Right? I goofed a little on my 3 week pre-op diet. The purpose is to shrink your liver a little so they can easily get at the stomach. Also, to calm the inflammation that comes with poor eating choices and drinking. Hang in there. Help is on the way. And if you goof, get right back on track immediately. You can do this!

Can you bring something you are allowed? I know for me I could have two shakes and moderate dinner. I switched my meal to lunch on a game day and had a shake for dinner. But kickoff is at 3. Go Hawks! :-)

That's probably what I will end up doing. I thought kick off isn't until 6:30. That's what the NFL website says. All the pre show stuff starts at around 3 but actual kick off isn't until 6:30. Well .. 6:30 eastern time anyway.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
