Getting vitamins down

Recommended Posts

I was told that Vitamins could wait one week. As far as medication that couldn't, make sure they are broken up to be smaller than an mm candy and I would have them with yogurt. It will be easy in a couple days, just take the necessary ones till then.

Oh, and capsule pills can be opened up and sprinkled on the yogurt, sugar free pudding or whatever works for you that's not hot.

I wasn't taking anything until my after my two week follow up with the surgeon. That's where I got my list of stuff.

I only take my thyroid meds, my bariatric Vitamin (capsule I swallow 2x a day), my Vitamin D, and my Calcium chews three times a day.

I do thyroid, Vitamin D, one Vitamin and one Calcium chew in the a.m. with my Protein tea. I have a timer set on my phone for 2:30pm for my second vitamin, I was horrible at remembering it early on, now no problem. And I take my other two calcium chews during the day when I remember.

What pills? If they are for high blood pressure or something like that you need to do it, but if you are stressing of a daily multi, or some Vitamin D, well those can wait for your esophagus and stomach to heal for a week. And Calcium can wait two weeks.

Crushing medications DID NOT work for me. No matter what I put them in it made me gag. I was finally allowed to swallow pills and my life got much better.

this is exactly why my bariatric center switched their policy from crushing to swallowing or if necessary braking into smaller chunks, but not crushing.

Crushing does not help. It's almost worse. Lol

I had all liquid vitamins for the first three weeks except for prescriptions. I was scared of the pills at first but they were fine.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
