Hello everyone,

Had my lapband done in South Australia on 23/04/07 and my first fill of 25 mls on 28/05/07. Higest weight was 107.5, BMI 34.5, OP weight was 105kg or 231pnds. and my goal weight is 60 -65 kgs or 132 -143 pnds. I have never participated in an online forum previosly so hope I don't mess up. Have been reading all the comments and have learned a lot. My Doctor is a good surgeon but doesnt tell me much and I dont know what to ask.

HI CJ AUSSIE,

I'm from SYDNEY,and get banded in 5 days. I am also starting to panic. I am particularly concerned about the excess skin, my doctor told me some people end up with heaps and some dont!!! That didnt make me feel any better cause I dont know what category I fall into!

Anyway, thats enough of me, how have you found the banding? Are you doing your normal everyday thing? Can you feel it?

Hello from Brisbane!

Congrats on being banded CJ. What sorts of questions do you have? Fire away... I will help out if I can.

Maria. Your doctor is dead on. Some people will have a lot of excess skin, and others with fantastic genetics, will not. And sadly, you won't know what category you fall into till you fall into it.

Hi Chickie,

You look great. I hope I do a well as you. Did you have any side effects, can you eat normal food, how many fills have you had?

Hey Maria!

No real side effects, aside from having to buy a whole new wardrobe! I can, and do eat normal food. I make a point to eat whole foods (not processed) and organic wherever I can. But "normal" food now is so different now to what I called "normal" 3 years ago. I have been accused around these parts of being extreme in my eating (I am a veggie, and prefer not to eat junk food) But as I talk to all the healthiest people I know, while they are not all veggie, they all seem to eat the same sorts of things as I do.

How many fills? I think I have had in the range of 10 fills and unfills total (I was unfilled for a short period, then was filled up again) The trouble with all the "fill talk" that goes on around here is, what works for me, is not necessarily going to work for you, or anyone else. Some people get by with 1cc in their band, others have to be filled right up to feel restriction. Every person is so different.

I say take it one fill at a time, and give it time to work.

Sam.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
