Question for Women Who Have Had Babies- Hair Loss

Recommended Posts

I have hit the three-month mark and my hair is starting to fall out. So far, not too bad. It reminds me of losing my hair after each of my three pregnancies. For those of you already past this, was it about like the Hair loss with pregnancy? I am hoping it doesn't get worse!

I am 4 months post op and it is still coming out. I started losing around 3 months as well. According to my Bariatric team it should hopefully stop soon. The good news is it is just thinning, there are no bald spots.

I started taking Biotin about 3 weeks ago.

Biotin will help with regrowth but it will not stop the dead hairs from shedding.

It does remind me of the Hair loss after pregnancy. I'm only 2 months out and I'm starting to shed. I take Vitamins, but it still fas out. I'm guessing it's gonna take a while before my body can catch up to the lack of calories and slow down of hairloss

The good news is I am Italian and had a very thick head of hair. Now it is pretty but thin.

I was wondering the same thing. I'm 4 1/4 months post sleeve surgery and have noticed that it seems my hair is falling out faster than normal. I'm taking Biotin, but am wondering if there is a really good brand that someone knows of?

Drying my hair right now and every time I run my hand through my hair, lots of hair falls all over my keyboard!

I had thin (and fine) hair to begin with so this was something I was really worried about. My doc told me Protein, Protein, protein. Our nails and hair are made from protein (keratin) so it is vital to make sure we are getting enough. With both of my pregnancies, my hair stopped shedding and I was ecstatic, but after they were born the shedding resumed. I went to a dermatologist a couple of years ago and he recommended women's rogain. Well, I am horrible about using it every single day so I never really noticed a difference. I had heard a bunch of people recommend Biotin for nails and hair even before surgery and the doc mentioned it as a supplement so I thought 'why not.' I am also a pretty skeptical person, but I have to say, the Biotin has worked very well for me. I do still shed, but it isn't a big increase over what I experienced before surgery, so I am happy!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
