I was graduated to stage 3 diet today (RNY on 1/19) for dinner around 630 I had 1/2 cup mashed potatoes (didn't eat it all, maybe a little less than half) and 1/4 cup applesauce (ate most of it)

I felt like I had a ball in my esophagus for an hour and a half after I ate. At 45 minutes post meal I had a few small sips of Water. Now I have a stomach ache. A legit bellyache like I would have had pre op if I ate too much... What can I do? I'm so uncomfortable.

Gas-x strips aren't working. I have Tums but I think they have real sugar in them (dextrose and sucrose) - 2 tablets have 2g sugars. Will they make me feel worse?

I'm in tears, been laying in bed with the heating pad for the last hour and a half. Thanks!!

1/2 cup of mashed potatoes is too much. Total should be 3/8 cup. This is 1/4 cup plus 2 Tablespoon. You'll feel better. I've done and suffered the same way....

Goodluck

Talked to my surgeon - called to talk to on call nurse but since within two weeks of surgery they put me thru to on call surgeon... And it is him lol. Anyway. No to tums, because of the sugar. He said just have to wait it out. I want to vomit so badly. Wonder what would happen if I did.

This may sound crazy, and maybe it is, but I find if I walk around or at least stay sitting up I digest faster... Gravity maybe? Anyways try not to lay down, it may help.
