cindyh95 21 Posted January 30, 2015 I am 11 weeks post op, and I know we have hair loss, but mine is falling out like crazy! I take 10,000 mcg of Biotin daily and all my other Vitamins. I try not to blow dry it or use the straightener. It is everywhere!!My surgeon says it's normal and will stop, but when?? I'm afraid I'll have nothing left. What are your experiences, any ideas on what I can do to help my hair.
Sherrischeffler 74 Posted January 30, 2015 Its totally normal for 6-9 months, mine did it for 1yr but continue getting Protein in that helps alot. I use flatiron 1 or 2 times per month otherwise mine is extremely kinky curly but its a natural curl so a lil mousse helps mine.
HYCIERRA 144 Posted January 31, 2015 Ojon reconstructive thickening Shampoo and conditioner!! I discovered this after doing a lot of research. It's AMAZING and thickens your hair after the very first use!! I was losing handfuls of hair every day and this has been such a blessing. I buy it at Ulta and is about $25 per bottle, but soooo with it!!!
MayorDucky 1 Posted February 4, 2015 When my hair started falling out, I started taking the Biotin like you have, but I also started using Nutri-Ox Thinning Hair system, a series of Shampoo, conditioner, and hair regrowth formula, I found at Sally's Beauty Supply. I also adjusted my supplement schedule to make sure my Iron intake wasn't being impacted by coffee, tea, and cocoa (I had no idea those could block iron absorption!). The Hair loss started at 4 months post-op, and I just entered month 9 and can definitely tell that not as much hair is falling out. There will still be some that comes out, but it's no longer a scary sight at my shower drain!
cindyh95 21 Posted February 6, 2015 I've been reading some articles which all pretty much say that it's just something that happens when a major surgery or rapid weight loss occurs. It can last up to 6 mos. Soooo....I'll just hang in there and maybe try the Ojon or nutri ox. Thanks for the suggestions all!!
ready2B 263 Posted February 6, 2015 How much Protein are you eating a day? I am right at 3 months and I haven't started losing any hair yet. I also take 10,000 mcg of Biotin and get in around 60 gms of Protein a day.
cindyh95 21 Posted February 7, 2015 How much Protein are you eating a day? I am right at 3 months and I haven't started losing any hair yet. I also take 10,000 mcg of Biotin and get in around 60 gms of Protein a day. I am between 60-80 grams per day, most days. Unless I ate something wrong and I hurt, then I pretty much stop eating the rest of the day. From what I've been reading, it completely depends on where your hair is in it's "cycle" on the day of surgery. Major surgery and rapid weight loss trigger the Hair loss. Some people aren't as affected as others. Unfortunately, I'm being affected pretty bad. I'm not a vain person, but it is emotionally hard to see this much hair coming out. I hope you stay right there and not lose any!!
ready2B 263 Posted February 8, 2015 You've also lost a lot more weight than I have in less time - so that might have something to do with it. I am losing weight painfully slow right now and would gladly lose some hair in exchange for losing some more weight! What a crazy ride this is!
AmyC65 34 Posted February 8, 2015 I'm almost at 6 months and mine really only started falling out at around 4 - 4 1/2 months. I take the same Biotin dosage as you. When I saw my stylist this week, she said I have loads of new growth, about 2-3" long right now. So I'm encouraged that it is coming in. Mine is about 2' long, so when I lose even a few, it feels like it's everywhere! I've been in a ponytail 24/7 for months now to keep it from being all over the house! mariodturner83 3 Posted April 15, 2015 Try vita4life’s Hair Skin and Nail vitamin. It has 2000mcg Biotin formula that can definitely assist you to avoid hair fall.
rjackson1982 10 Posted April 15, 2015 I used Biotin and Vitamins also, but I still thought I would never stop losing hair. It seemed to come out in huge amounts, but after I hit around 10 months out of surgery it seemed to slow and now a little over a year seems to have almost stopped and is regrowing. I do dry and straighten my hair regularly, but I use a heat protection spray and also biosilk occasionally.
