Frustrated and need to vent.....

Recommended Posts

I am 17 days post op and I know that I have just began my journey. To be blunt, this journey is starting to suck! I still am in pain from surgery and I can't get comfortable to sleep. I couldn't wait to start the pureed phase. I now seem to hate all food. Nothing sounds good. I can't stand cottage cheese, refried Beans, greek yogurt or eggs. I obviously wasn't that picky before the surgery or I wouldn't be in this situation. Every meal and sip of Water is a battle.

I really don't have a question or a point to make. I just needed to vent to people who understand what I am going thru. Thanks for letting me rant.

I feel for you. Post surgery I really struggled with the taste of things. Particularly with any liquids. The best thing I found at that time was milk. It didn't taste as odd.

I like the Dannon Lite vanilla yogurt. You could add Protein powder to it. What about Soups with Protein Powder added. My doc and nutritionist were ok with me having soft low-fat cheeses.

I still really struggle to get in enough Protein and work on it every day. It took me about 3 weeks for liquids to taste ok again. I can barely tolerate any kind of artificial sweetener and I have tried them all. That makes things really difficult.

Hang in there! For me the puréed stage was absolutely the worst. No matter what I pureed I hated it. I ended up living on regular yogurt, Protein shakes, cottage cheese (I did not purée it I simply made sure I chewed it until it was pureed in my mouth), chicken broth, carrots that I pureed.

I had a very hard time meeting Protein goals until I found Premier Protein chocolate flavored. I drank 2 a day giving me 60g of protein.

I was so happy to move past that phase but it does take time and trial and error to figure things out.

I promise it will absolutely get better! You just have to give your tummy time to heal. The only way to do that is to get plenty of protein and Water.

Good luck!

It does get better and you will be glad you made this decision!

It gets better. Just focus on sticking to the plan and all will be well. But I am not going to lie. For a bit it sucks but I assure the rewards are amazing. This is the boot camp part. As you go through your day remember this is just a phase. You will come out.

liquid and pureed where the worst. I promise, it does get better. Hang tight for another couple of weeks. The pain goes away and you'll get to eat "regular" foods again. Getting the hang of this thing (pouch) takes some time.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
