I am new to this forum, and new to gastric sleeve. I will be self pay! I live in the Houston area. I have looked into Dr. Scarborough and Dr. Boner. I have also heard great things about dr. Ponce de leon in mexico and think that may be an option!!!!! Share with me your experiences, and prices if you can!

I had surgery with Dr. Ariel Ortiz at the Obesity Control Center in Mexico and it was a great experience all around. You should definitely read up on the Self-Pay & Mexico forums:

http://www.bariatricpal.com/forum/486-self-pay-mexico-gastric-sleeve-surgery/

Tons of great info on there and personal experiences with all of the various surgeons.

Hi, I am a self pay and had the sleeve in Cancun w dr hector Perez at Victoria. Price good. Hospital small but immaculate, nursing staff some of the best - better than what I have experienced at larger high end hospitales. Dr is fluent in English as is administrative staff; nurses some eng. private mssg me if interested in more info! If not... Best of luck on your journey. Steve at noon 1/24. Home at 1pm 1/26. Minimal pain, gas but walked it out, no nausea etc.

I'm a self pay in Houston and used Dr. Ata Ahmad. Great doctor but I think the follow up care is lacking. I learned more from this site than the doc's team. I'd still use him again.

Hi, I had surgery in Houston with Dr Jorge I Leiva. He is originally from Mexico and mentioned that he was trying to put together a self pay option where he would do the surgery in Mexico and do post op care back in Houston. I do not know if he has set this up yet. But you might want to call and ask since the price for surgery will be lower in Mexico but he is a Bariatric Center of Excellence and FACS and Board certified surgeon. He also did the surgery through my belly button, two very small incisions that you cannot see at all unless I point them out. He does not do the belly button on everybody but will consider if you follow all pre op instructions and meet other requirements. Feel free to message me if you have questions.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
