Stomach Stretched?

Recommended Posts

I am 27 months (almost 2.5 years) post op. I am truly worried that my stomach has stretched. I can eat more than before without getting that full feeling. I have also gained about 25 pounds of the 80 I lost. Anyone else have this problem or feeling?

I have a book that is called the "five day pouch test" by Kaye Bailey. It simply says that if you will go back to day 1 and do just what you did right after surgery, do it for five days that you can most likely get your pouch back down! This at least will help you get back on track. So give it a try! Good luck!

That must be very stressful after everything you have been through to lose the weight. Im just in the beginning stages of my research to have the surgery. I found this article. It's probably stuff you have already heard but just incase it might help here's the link http://www.victoriabariatricsurgery.com/pouch-rules-for-dummies/ Good luck!

That's my biggest fear! I'm one week postop and I discussed this with my surgeon after surgery. He stated that after a year or two it's common and normal to see weight gain. Some of the reasons are: relaxed exercise regimen after losing the weight and stretching of the pouch by overeating. His advice was if weight gain occurs, pump up your exercise regimen, make sure your getting enough Protein, Vitamins and sleep and lastly, as already suggested go back to the post op diet for a week. Good luck!

My surgeon got on my case because I admitted that I had stopped measuring my food. He states the eye/portion relationship was not habit yet. He had me go back to weighing the portions to ensure no overeating. I know for sure my stomach can hold more now, but it still doesn't take much.

This is a very interesting article with some good insight, but I must point out that is was written in 1980 and is geared towards bypass patients with a pouch. Still, many of the points are helpful, although those of us with other surgeries may need to pick and choose what applies to our situation. But the discussion about why WLS can fail is eye-opening. Thanks for sharing this, @@bcal2015!

I just read that pdf. My surgeon would shoot me if he ever caught me 'Water loading'. Also, I wouldn't be able to fit any food in. In addition, I think that pdf was written for Roux en Y bypass patients. I would also get in trouble for going 1.5-2 hours without Water. Aside from the fact that I have diabetes insipidus and could put myself in the hospital, even if my kidneys functioned normally, he would worry about dehydration.

OP, you may want to call your surgeon and see if you can get an upper gi series done.

I brought this up on the gastric bypass side since I had the RNY done and all the responses were also negative in what this PDF file said.

Yeah, the more I think about it, the more ridiculous it seems. They don't know how the 'pouch' works? Yes they do, they told me the first time we talked about it. 1. Restriction. 2. The loss of 2/3 of the hormone receptors lying to your hypothalamus and telling your brain that you are hungry. That's how it works. Also, it's from 1980. I was born in 1980, and I'm 35.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
