QueenieB 3 Posted January 28, 2015 I'm 12 days post op and doing ok. I've read and heard a ton of different answers. Just wondering about one specifically. I heard that when getting the sleeve as opposed to the roux en y, you will not suffer from "dumping"? Any truth to this?
JamieLogical 8,713 Posted January 28, 2015 It is HIGHLY unlikely that you will experience dumping with the sleeve. Dumping is caused by bypassing the part of the small intestine that digests sugar with RNY. When an RNY patient eats high sugar foods, they become ill, because their bodies can no longer properly digest it. As a sleeve patient, your small intestine is fully intact. There are some people who experience dumping-like symptoms post sleeve, but that is due to other factors and is very rare.
