TODAY IS THE DAY ,NEW LIFE

Recommended Posts

I feel great!! The first couple days..yes you feel wiped out and you have like a "tight knotty" feeling in the centre of the chest from inside ...and you do find burping a task..but after thinking Im going to have this forever...it went by the 4th day...but I guess thats different in every patient. My scars were not hurting at all...but when sipping Water for first time I could hear my stomach gurgle away...funny sensation. The urge to gulp down water was hard..as i knew only to sip and took ages yo take liquid meds...but you get used to it. Plus Im a coffee lover but after this only managing half a cup...as it goes cold..due to the time it takes to swallow. Today Im so back on track the only thing to remind me ive had surgery is the scars as it feels fab inside.

Thank you for sharing. My surgery will be march 15 I'm trying to read post op. To be prepare on what to expect. I have to say that for my c section and gallbladder surgery I had no problems, I got up couple hrs after and was fine. So I don't know if is a comparable pain

Its kinda like having gallbladder removed. I had mine removed 2 years ago. Its the getting rid of the gas that they blow your belly up with. Due to that..before they put me under..I asked the surgeon to expel most of the gas..it really helped.as apparently what may be painful is the pain you get on the right top shoulder...as the gas spreads that far. When I woke up and after a couple hours I had that shoulder pain but very minor. What was different was a "Swallowed a ball" like you swallowed something too big. Its a bit painful when suddenly you get urge to burp..but it doesnt last long. The morphine helped and other meds to calm all acids. Remember to sip all the time and just.....take your time in drinking and it wont hurt at all. Just gurgling which was weird ..but thats calmed too. I asked another post patient on same ward and she had very similar feelings. If you need any of us for guidance im more than happy to help. X

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
