JamieLogical 8,710 Posted January 27, 2015 Did you not get a prescription for an antacid from your surgeon? My surgeon had me on 40mg Omeprazole for two months post-op and I've ended up having to continue taking the 20mg over-the-counter dosage since then, as when I tried to go off it at the two month mark, I was experiencing reflux. JamieLogical 8,710 Posted January 27, 2015 Well, I hope you don't end up needing it long term, like me, but I knew going in that GERD and heartburn were potential side effects of the sleeve. My reflux is completely under control with just the over-the-counter dosage now, so it's not too bad, but I could see not wanting to be on a medication forever. I'm already taking like 15 supplements a day post-op, so what's one more pill?
mindytaylor08 8 Posted January 27, 2015 I left the hospital with a script that I had to take the first 30 days post op twice a day. You might call and see if he will call in a liquid Prilosec.
BLERDgirl 6,417 Posted January 27, 2015 I was told it's fairly common the first 6 mths to a year. My doctor started me on 20mg per day for the first 90 days. Around the time I started adding back foods I found I needed to increase it to 40mg. We're going to try that for another 90 days and see how things goes. Since the alternative is heartburn that could lead to ulcers, I prefer to take the PPI at least for the time being. Why be uncomfortable when you don't have to?
