Hello voyagers...Just wanted to get a glimpse of whats in store for me. My first seminar will be this Friday the 30th and i have healthfirst/medicaid so I wanted to hear from those that have the same insurance as me though im aware that everyones situation is different. My hospital of choice is Montefiore....Thanks.

Hi, I'm going to Montefiore for my surgery too. Same insurance. My experience was fairly good. Just make sure you make it to each monthly class. Those are really important. I'm still pre- op just waiting for my chart to be reviewed so I can sign consent. Word of advice, get your required doctors visits in as soon as you can or it can drag out the process for more than the required 6 months. I'm already looking at a year of preparation because I couldn't get one of my clearance letters until a few weeks ago.

Good luck to you!!

Thank you so much for sharing your experience. I was hoping the insurance wouldn't require that 6 month diet..from your experience, do you know if there is a way to expedite the process? :-)

The six months of dieting isisnot a true diet its really you learning the skills you will need for post surgery life. So far from what I've had to go through it doesn't look like there is a way to expedite the process. There are classes once a month and during that time you have to see all these different doctors to get medical clearance for surgery.

Hi ladies, can you update me on ur experience? I have the same insurance and with monti. I was told there is no 6month wait with healthfirst?

I even called them to make sure. Did the surgeon require this?

Thanks :)

I have healthfirst/amerigroup and it was a requirement for me to do the 6 months of classes while i was getting all my medical clearances. It wound up stretching out to over a year because of scheduling for some of my appts but i finally got my surgery date for march 23rd.

I have healthfirst/medicaid.

I was hoping I wouldn't have to wait eternity in between appointments.

Grrr

It shouldnt take that long. My psychiatrist was just being a jerk and making me wait for the clearance from her. As long as you get your appointments taken care of right away, you should only be waiting the 6 mos or so.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
