do you crush all your medications?

Most of my pills are tiny, and I'm wondering if I can just swallow them whole cause they're pretty nasty crushed up!

I never had to crush anything, my surgeon said it was fine to swallow any medication that would fit through a typical wedding ring.

I never crushed any of mine and didn't have any problems with them. I only took my birth control and the prescriptions my surgeon gave me through the first week, then I was allowed to start back on my supplements. That included giant horse pills like my Calcium and Omega 3 and I never had any issues.

Being in the Medical Field..............you absolutely NEVER crush your medications unless it states you can. You lessen the strength of the medication. If you are taking a capsule that you can pull apart, those tiny speckles can be put on applesauce and taken that way. again, NEVER crush your medications. If it is a pill that can be cut in 1/2, use a spliter to cut in half.

I just find it odd that every surgeon who performs this operation is different. It just amazes me some of the questions asked. Most go to Mexico to have done, but then where do they have their follow-ups, who refills medications. My surgeon performed the operation and their office is who I follow-up with ... no one else.

I really like this group, but some of the questions asked drives me insane because they should have been discussed way before the surgery even happened.

I did discuss with my surgeon way before the surgery. He said to crush.

I had to crush all pills for a week then allowed to swallow anything smaller than tip of little finger. Cleared to swallow all pills at 3 weeks. Crushed pills = YUCK!! ????

Protocol varies widely though so check with your surgeon. My rule is that while it's interesting to see what other people do the only opinion that is ultimately important is my own doctor and nutritionist ????

Per my surgeon, all meds/ supplements were to be taken whole starting day three. You should not crush meds... especially time released meds. I was given a binder full of info prior to my surgery that I can refer to at any time.

Yeah never crush , only split if the medication. I have walked away from taking some of those large pills for my daily Vitamins and have been using some of the AdvoCare supplements : helps out alot and also keeping me consistent with working out (when I can)

No crushing here for all the reasons mentioned above. I'll be 2 weeks out tomorrow and I've been swallowing all my pills with no problems.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
