I took a small travel pillow with me to the hospital and used it to brace my stomach when I got up and down and walked. It was a lifesaver. The second most helpful item was Biotene mouthwash. It helps moisturize your dry mouth.

Nothing. I carried very little and used everything I brought. I bought extra large undies to wear home. My iPad/iPhone and charger, a toothbrush and toothpaste. I didn't need a pillow. I only live 45 mins away from the hospital and I wasn't that much pain upon discharge. I found my hospital very accommodating.

someone else in a previous post mentioned a pillow to put between their tummy and the seatbelt on the way home.

I was hospitalized a few years ago for something else....and for me what was most important was a binder clip....the plug for my ipad/iphone was on the wall and i used the binder clip to hold the part that plugs into the phone/ipad ...I clipped it on the botttom sheet of my bed...up by my pillow...so I could always reach the plug to charge the phone/ipad......after that surgery I couldnt get out of bed for 24 hours so it was helpful that I could reach the charger.

Biotein mouth spray, gas ex, don't laugh my dr provided a stuffed moose. I love it! I held it when I coughed. My podcast with meditations and music. A dress to put on right after. It was much easier than sweats.

The blanket that my son made me which I take everywhere I go . Even on airplanes. And my iPad. We're my comfort items. Along with my husband who spent the two nights in the hospital with me in case I need anything before the nurses could get there for me. He bought them all donuts and Cookies I think he was bribing them.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
