heel5man 0 Posted January 26, 2015 I met with the nutritionist today (pre-op). Their requirement for a Protein drink is that has 20-30 grams of Protein and less than 17 grams of carbs. I personally need to avoid the whey Proteins due to a lactose intolerance. If you drink a soy, egg or other non-dairy protein and find it works well after the surgery, please let me know. I'd love to find them pre-mixed, but not sure if that's available. Thanks
BLERDgirl 6,417 Posted January 27, 2015 I'm never crazy about the word "Best" since it's such a subjective term. It's really just a matter of finding what works for you and for each of that it would be different. There are several vegan Protein powders and shakes out there you can try. Bob'd Red Mill makes a soy isolate powder if you prefer to add your own flavoring. I also made a few other suggestions on this post. My recommendation is to google "Non dairy Protein supplements" and start reading labels and reviews. Get as many samples as you can and taste them for yourself. Kindle 8,667 Posted January 27, 2015 (edited) Jay Robb makes an egg Protein line, but I wasn't a big fan of the taste. I think you can get individual packets from their website, so you could try them for yourself. Spirutein is soy, pea, and rice Protein and I've liked all I've tried...strawberry, vanilla and banana. They also make a chocolate and chai latte but I haven't tasted them yet. Raw Fit and Raw Protein are sprouted seed protein. I really like these (chocolate, vanilla, coffee, and original) but some people may not like the texture. Since it is whole food-based, it doesn't dissolve completely like other powders. It wants to settle out, but I just mix and drink from a Blender Bottle so I just give it a shake between drinks. Besides soy protein, Bob's Red Mill also makes a plain hemp protein and vegetable protein. You would have to add flavoring to them, but would provide the "purest" protein option. I have found the Spirutein, Raw Fit and Raw Protein in individual packets in several health food stores so you could try them before buying a big tub.
