How do you know you are full????

"Hmmm..... I still get the growling tummy hunger and hunger pains just like pre-band. I can eat and eat and eat and still never really feel full. I'm beginning to wonder if I really have a band!!!"

Blossom I was banded on November the 1st and I feel the same way. I still can eat a lot. Still less than I could but a heck of a lot more than what I thought. Hopefully I don't gain every pound back before my first fill. Now that I am back on any food I want the growling has subsided a bit, but I am sure shovin it in and wondering when my band will tell me to stop!

After awhile, the growling tummy thing will subside. It's funny, how we're conditioned to think that because our tummy is making noise that we're hungry or empty. In fact, the tummy may just be doing it's job of digesting OR we learn that just because it growls we don't HAVE to feed it. I know I surely have enough storage already on board that I won't starve until the next mealtime. lol

Blossom:

That is just the way I feel now. I feel like I can eat forever. I was banded on Nov 8th. What is up with that? I have not gotten sick yet, thank the Lord, but I feel so hungry sometimes. My fill won't be for another 4 weeks or so. I hope I am still going to be able to loose weight????? Help!!! Janine

Are you on a schedule with your fills? If your at a plateau for more than a few weeks call your Doc. and ask for a fill. You'll have restiction sooner or later. I think patience is one of the hardest things for us on this journey. We have to remember how long it took for us to get this Big!

This really is the hardest part of banding! But remember, it's temporary and necessary to heal properly. You're still "wide open" and can eat like preband. Try to make wise food choices and keep drinking that Water. Find something that you enjoy doing (that doesn't involve food!). Take a walk with the dog, visit a neighbor, Christmas shop, don't watch t.v. (too many food commericials), etc. There is a lot of mental work that we have to do along with the physical. Food's been our constant "companion" and now it's been yanked away from us. You're probably going through a brief mourning period. But as those "too small" clothes hanging in the closet suddenly get "too big", you'll start thinking, "Hey, this IS going to work!" And you'll realize that "Food is NOT my friend!" Best of luck to all of you! You can do this!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
