Hi

I am having revision from band to sleeve in three weeks (successful with the band, regained after slip and two pregnancies to Bmi 31) I am for the UK and having my surgery in Europe with the same surgeon. His aftercare advice is more of a lifestyle guide rather than a facts guide.

I would just like to know what the common post op Portion Control is that you are given. I.e how long on clear/ liquids/ mushy etc and the macro split for protein/carbs etc. I am interested in nutrition and would like to focus on trying to get everything from natural food but I do understand that supplements especially in the beginning are necessary.

Thanks in advance, just want to get off to the right start and I know that in the US much more advice is given!

There is no across the boards consensus on this. Every doctor has a different protocol. Some have pre-op diets, some don't. Some do Clear Liquids then full liquids, some go straight to full liquids. The rest of the process tends to be liquids - purees - soft foods - all foods. However the amount of time in each stage can vary from 1 week to a full month. You need to speak with your doctor or nutritionist and gets specifics from them.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
