Hi all

I will be 3 weeks post op on wed Jan 28. I am on purée food, but every time I eat I feel terrible. I have tried mashed potatoes, eggs, grits, Beans, avacados, and a few other things. I am not even coming close to meeting my Protein goals. And i am so sick of being sick!! Can anyone help? Anyone feel this way? When does it get better!!!

Sounds like we could be bopsie twins. I'm getting sick during and after my meals at least once a day. I too am sick of being sick. I asked my surgeon about it yesterday and he said it would go away in a few weeks. I'm almost three weeks post op myself, my surgery was on Jan 8, 2015.

It's hard on our bodies getting sick like this. I can eat food on one day and be fine but I try to eat it again the next day and my body decides it doesn't like it and spits it out. It doesn't matter what food it is for me either. The Protein shake are starting to make me sick too, they aren't the greatest and are getting old real quick.

I'm trying not to complain too much about it but still. I throw up enough when I have my Migraines, I don't need to do it for this too. Fingers crossed it's only for a few more weeks and then my body will settle down and be happy again. We did go thru major surgery, let's not forget that. Our bodies need time to adjust to what the surgery did. Sounds like I'm giving myself a pep talk too :-) Good luck to you!!

I am 13 weeks along and it took me a while to figure out why I was getting sick but I did figure it out. It turns out I could only eat about 1/4 cup and since I couldn't feel full I could't tell until it was too late. Try measuring your food and stick to just that amount for a week, then increase it by a teaspoon every 2 or 3 days. It worked for me. I also was told to eat smaller bites, chew very and take at least 20 minutes to eat the 1/4 cup. I found that I was not able to sit down and eat that slow. It was like watching paint dry. So I eat while I am doing something and I drink when it's time to eat because I can have a nice warm cup of herbal tea as I relax. Also not all foods are made the same as far as our tummies are concerned. Trial and error is the game.

Same problem with Protein intake finally found a Protein that works for me. GENEPRO, odorless, tasteless, or somewhat tasteless today I discovered it's a little like powder milk, My daughter ordered it on Amazon, I mix it in a 1/4 cup of Water or juice and cream of wheat or Soup. It goes down well, You may want to give it a try. 30G per TBLS made by Musclegen Research. Hang in there, it really gets better.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
