Homeopathy/Naturopathy to help with recovery?

Recommended Posts

I am VERY early on in the process, so in some senses this is premature. But I figure if I can collect ideas here now, I will have time to do my own research AND get the products I decide on before I actually need them. (Being on Disability, I have a VERY tight budget so will probably only be able to get one item per month sort of thing.)

There are a couple of topics in various other places on Bariatric Pal, and I found a couple of web sites that give general post-op suggestions for after surgery.

What I've come up with so far is Arnica, Belle Perenis, Calendula, Gota Kola extract, and Staphisagria. Also loading up on Vitamins A, C, and E along with the mineral Zinc.

Has anybody heard of any of these? More importantly, does anyone have first hand information from taking any of them to help with your recovery?

talk to your surgical team and nutritionist, almost anything in pill form for awhile post surgery is a absolute no no. and many herbs have harsh effects on the stomach and digestive tract.

What exactly do you plan to use them for? I personally have no issues with homeopathy. My favorite nutritionist was a homeopath as well. Perhaps I am in the minority because I had no issues recovering post op. My doctor already had me on a regimen of Vitamins and supplements and I honestly didn't feel a need for additional ones. If you want less "cluttered" so to speak Protein supplements you can get both whey isolates or soy isolates in powder form to use instead. I am a vegetarian and I use Isopure naked whey. I can add that to my morning tea or coffee, greek yogurt, or vegetable broth/soup.

I'm not familiar with most of the supplements you have listed. (Arnica, Belle Perenis, Calendula, Gota Kola extract, and Staphisagria). What are they for? I get the rest of my Vitamins from my multi-Vitamin. So far my bloodwork has been perfectly fine.

I notice you are in PA. I'm in Philly. Where are you and where are you having your surgery done?

I have heard of a lot of the things you are talking about because I work in a food coop. Most of the people I have talked to say to take L-Glutamine as an amino acid after major surgery that helps with the body rebuilding itself. It is used by body builders and professional athletes to assist in the process of recovery from heavy workouts. It helps to heal body tissues. It is also a precursor to dopamine in the brain which helps you feel more positive and happy. I have a bottle of the stuff that I use to maintain a positive attitude and to reduce anxiety. I will be taking it every day after my surgery to help heal and stay happy. Also 5HTP is another amino that helps you sleep and increase serotonin in the brain....another natural happy amino.....I will be depending on both after my surgery.

ACD and E are the basics with recovery from physical trauma as is Arnica which helps tissues.

@BLERDgirl I'm the opposite end of the state, Pittsburgh and planning on having the surgery done at UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital. Odd choice for a guy, but the other local UPMC facility is really hard to get to by bus, especially so post-op. The supplements I listed were the ones that kept showing up on different homeopathy sites for post-op healing.

@InItToWinIt2015 thanks for the advice. Maybe I'll just supplement those two amino acids and get onto a Vitamin regimen as soon as possible post-op. I've seen liquid Vitamins which I'm thinking I should be able to do immediately post-op until I can handle chewables.< /span>

All in all, I want to heal as quickly as possible so I don't have pain as an excuse not to walk, and end up with all the problems caused by not walking,. And I'd rather the scars from the laproscopic procedure not be visible at 50 yards should I ever go to the beach again. *shrugs* Never been vain before,. Then again, I've never NOT been fat before either.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
