So I have made my decision to not jump through the insurance hoops and have my sleeve done in MX. I am very nervous about this as I do not have friends and family that support this decision so I will be doing it alone.

Don't worry, I am sure you will be well taken care of. I've been to Mexico alone twice for surgery (once for plastics and once for VSG) and both were very positive experiences. I received all of the support I needed from the staff there and everyone was very friendly and helpful.

Read all the posts here about surgeons in Mexico. You will find a great deal of information based on personal experiances. I had surgery (sleeve) in the US which was approved by my ins co. However my daughters were not as lucky and both received denials from their ins. Companies. So we chose a surgeon in Mexico and they both had their surgeries (sleeve) on Dec 8th. They are both doing great and progressing very well. Mexico is a very viable option for those of us that do not have ins approval and who cannot finance via self pay here in the US.

For us the dollars compare between $28000 to $6000. It was clear to us that Mexico was the only option for my girls. Never been sorry we made that choice. Do your research, make your surgeon selection, and move forward to setting a surgery date. You will love being on the other side and joining the rest of us on the losers bench! ????

Your support will be all of us that have experience with the Mexico surgery. We will be here for you. And you are never really alone there because there is always multiple surgeries scheduled each day. You will quickly make friends with your fellow comrades!

I went alone too. I was scared to death but as soon as I was picked up at the airport, I made friends with the others in the van. We supported each other and their support people kept checking on me too! We walked around together at the hotel and the hospital. Everyone else there with you is nervous and scared too! Good luck to you.

I will be having surgery here bc insurance will cover most of it. I will be going to MX for skin removal as it won't be covered. MX can be great option! My surgeon spoke about doing revisions bc the previous surgeon didn't remove enough so I would definately ask that question to whoever you go to. Good luck with your journey!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
