Recommended Posts

Hello all! My surgery is set for feb 9 and I start my liquid diet on Tuesday. I'm excited, nervous and everything other emotion you can think of. Right now I'm most worried about the 2 weeks and getting though that.

Yeah I'm 2/9 as well. I start my 2 week low carb tomorrow. Just scared and add the anxiety it makes it hard. I kinda wish it would hurry and be done. Lol but then I would worry about the next thing. Lol

What an exciting time for you. I had RNY surgery on 5/27/14 and have done amazingly well. The two weeks on the liquid diet will fly by, trust me. Now that you have a surgery date, you will find it's easier to stick to the plan than you can imagine. I was a big time food addict and had no trouble with hunger or urges to cheat. It's so exciting that you are strongly motivated to succeed! Best of luck!

Hi everyone! Surgery date was Feb 5th. Weight was 317, this morning was 290.2. Feeling nauseous almost everyday, hard to get my Protein in because everything tastes like crap. Drinking lemon Water everyday does help. How is everyone else doing?

Sounds like your doing great! Hitting those milestones like into the 2's are awesome. I am still pre-op, am having my surgery in a couple of weeks on March 30th. I'm sure I will have the same issues as you. I know it helps me to read all these forums to know what expect. That way I won't be shocked by anything I feel or come across! I think this site has prepared me way more than my MD has in the 1 visit I've seen him before he operates on me lol. Plus I've made a couple of friends. I see you are new too. I hope you enjoy the support and message me anytime.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
