Veronica, i defeinetely find myself more thursty and craving water...am still only a baby bandster (12 days) but i think relinquishing carbonated drinks is a small price to pay for my new life. One of my buds kept on at me recently - "what, no beer??!!" and i had to keep saying "Yes, but no diabtetes, aching joints, low self-esteem etc etc" - not sure she graps it yet lol.

I had my band placed 5/5/04, but the port incision never healed. It became badly infected, so on 6/17/04 they surgically removed my port. During the removal surgery, they gave me my first and only fill. I'm still waiting for the incision to heal. If and when it heals, they'll need to do a 3rd surgery to give me a new port or I won't be able to get fills.

Diet Coke as well as most carbonated beverages are highly acidic. They have carbonic acid in them. Even though they are sugar free, it contributes to tooth decay because of the acidity. It also causes/contributes/aggravates acid reflux. Not to be redundant, but this is not good for our bands!

A while ago I was watching a diet program info-mercial. I agreed with one statement made, "When it rains, it rains Water. If people were meant to drink pop, then it would rain pop." Well, it made sense once I thought about it.

About a year ago, I had one of those really funky dreams that I wasn't able to shake for a couple weeks. It was eerie, almost a nightmare. In the dream, I learned that my desire and addiction to Diet Pepsi was actually making me fat. I dreamed that diet sodas and foods actually chemically cause people to be fat. The dream had all sorts of analytical data incorporated into visions of diet soda and fat. I woke up the next morning completely freaked out, thinking Diet Pepsi had sabotaged my entire life. I haven't had a diet soda since. I started drinking regular soda, but I'd never have more than one a day.

Meanwhile, I have an autoimmune disease. So far, there's no known cause of my "Sarcoidosis" but I read a study that implicates Nutrisweet as the culprit.

And at the risk of another hijack, my wound is looking much better. I have another whole post devoted to it, and I'll be posting a new picture tonight to show everyone how well it seems to be doing. Thank you for asking about me : )

Well, i've almost got the habit kicked! It has been easier than I thought it would be this week. I am down from 12-15 to 3 a day! I am quite scatter brained but i'm not sure whether to attribute that to the lack of diet coke or the fact that I am so excited about my upcoming banding. Anyway, I hope to be soda free by Monday!

Momoffour,

I was addicted to Coke, not diet which I know was so bad. I thought that would be sooo hard for me to give up Coke. It has been a little over 3 months and I have not had anything with carbonation! This is a major accomplishment for me. While I did not have 12 a day, I had about 3 or 4. You can do it if you just think about stretching out your pouch. Why would you go through all this to sabotage it? That's my thinking anyway. Best of luck to you!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
