Gastric slippage and reposition surgery

Recommended Posts

Good morning every one

I had my band in august 2014 i lost 20 kg since then. Since one month i experienced gurgling sounds in my esophagus and stomach and burping almost of the time. I did barium swallow and diagnosed with gastric slippage. Now planning to have new repositioning surgery.

Any body had this before and how is every thing after second surgery?? I am afraid it could slip again?? Any information??

I got my band in July 2011..it slipped April 2014 and was removed. It was put back in December 2014. Originally, I lost 124 pounds - gained 50+ back upon removed and now have lost 20 since it was put back in.

I feel fantastic. I am sorry your band slipped. You need to ask your doctor why he thought it slipped and if he is anchoring it a different way this time. My did. I am so glad I had my re-done. I feel great and so glad to be losing weight again rather than gaining.

Good Luck...

Thanx a lot for your reply

I will ask him about anchoring it differently the second time. Thanx for paying my attention to that.

Why did you take it out not repositioning it??

Good luck to you too

Hawazenf - the doc said he could not reposition the band due to scar tissue that had formed. He said it forms very quickly but it can heal. I BEGGED him not to take the band out. I was still begging as I went under for the surgery. He said he had no choice and that my stomach could have died..if he had not removed the band.

When he went in the 2nd time, he said there was still some scar tissue present (no way to check prior to surgery - I asked) but that it had improved enough to put a new band back in place.

I am just so thankful to have my band back - you have no idea..even knowing how sick I was and how close I came to dying - it was still something I felt strongly about and I had the support of family and friends. Now, of course, the rest is up to me.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
