When will I kick the dieing of thirst

Recommended Posts

5 1/2 weeks post op.. starting weight 239.. pre-op weight 233..post op 203

Will I ever catch up with my thirst again? I probably get down about 35 to 40 ounces of liquids a day and I am still dieing of thirst!

Not going to lie my protien intake sucks! Water still feels heavy on my stomach..protein shakes are so heavy and yucky to me now.. will be ordering some genepro!

But my urine scares me it's a liquid gold not pretty light and clear like it used to be! Watered down crystal light and orange juice is all this sleeve likes at the moment! ! Watered down apple juice (kinda). I feel as if I sip ALL day! All I wanna do is drink... I am truly not hungry!! I admit I drink alot more than I eat.

I truly do not want my kidneys to fail on me or my bladder to get infected! Please any sugesstions on how to get down more liquids? !

I hear ya! I'm pretty sure I'm dehydrated as we speak. Its been a super hot day here and all I want to do is scull ice cold Water but I'm not a fan of water at the moment and I can't scull obviously! My nutrionist said i can have watermelon too. My liquid and Protein intake is pretty shocking. Have you tried sports drinks with electrolytes in them? Maybe they will help. I find them a bit sweet at first. You could also try a smoothie with milk and some fruit - and if you add Protein Powder its Fluid and protein, just need to find a mix that works for you. I personally like banana spinach milk and a tiny bit of Peanut Butter.

It took a while to get the hang of it. I can't drink artificial sugars or food dyes so I drink my Water plain. I occasionally add a bit of apple juice but mostly it's plain H20 for me.

I switched to Isopure unflavored. It's 100% whey isolate. I can add it to anything, even Water although it does make the water cloudy.

My trick was to add a bit of water to my Protein drinks. Not a lot, maybe ¼ cup. I think added loads of ice. This helped thin out the shakes and get more water in.

My other trick for getting in my Protein was to mix 1 scoop of Protein Powder with ½cup of plain greek yogurt ( I use FAGE 0%). That would give me anywhere from 30 -38gms of protein with that first drink. Blended and serves over ice with a bit of water I could then relax for the rest of the day. Soup for lunch with a scoop of Isopure (26gms of protein) and I've hit 64 gms of protein by noon. I can then spend the rest of the day sipping water. Have dinner and sip some more before bed.

at 5 1/2 weeks post op, you should absolutely be getting at least 64 oz of Fluid a day. Yes, that means you're sipping constantly, but you're thirsty because, especially if you've been drinking like that for the past month, you're seriously dehydrated. I usually take 1 scoop of Syntrax nectar, mix that with 16 oz of Water, and drink that over the course of an hour or two.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
